🥳 Doom at 30: what it means, by the people who made it
ᐅ @guardian
「 Romero brought a range of sensibilities to his game design ethos. As a kid, his home was full of board games and he adored building things, using the classic construction toys Lincoln Logs and Tinker Toys to create his own little worlds 」
Beyond thrilled that a project I led got a golden Cacoward at this year’s very special Cacowards—held on Doom’s 30th (!) birthday! Can’t wait to get back to my now-several WIP Doom projects in the new year. #doom#DOOM30
Happy 30th to Doom.
The game's impact on the gaming scene cannot be overstated, but enough's been said about that. I've been planning to honour not just it, but also Boom, the source port that enabled the modding community to move forward, as it's 25 years old now.
Unfortunately, I am feeling sick. so my tribute WAD's gonna arrive at a later date.
Here is the stream Vod of the Romero-Carmack talk for Doom's 30th anniversary, talk starts around the 5 minute mark + 1 minute while John fixes his camera... xD
Quite a good talk, good questions from Mr. Craddock, while chat is having fun too. We had visit from civvie11 (he is a well known retrogaming youtuber, funny, down to earth guy), and Andrew Hulshult too.
This is such a fine day, reading many Doom stories of people, watching the legends who made the game talking about it, playing new stuff for the game as well. Could not have been better.
I also ordered Romero's new book (titled: Doom Guy Life in first person), hopefully I can read it, between my Lego building session, while I try to not eat too many Christmas food. :)
I am also back to weightlifting, which will help to boost my mood and health a little bit.
So I've played The Ultimate Doom and so should you, even if you've never played an FPS before just to give the genre a fair shake. You most likely have so I won't belabor you with a detailed account.
Purposeful level design, difficulty that changes the level design itself instead of an arbitrary metric. And watch out for the addition of Episode 4!
This project isn't dead! Sadly IRL can't let me work on it much! Also I like to start other projects :( sorry.
One day this will be released! I promise! #doom#sega32x#doom32x#retro#DOOM30
I think lot about open source and digital preservation, and how it affects technology, and how we view technology.
Open source and free software, while about freedom and dare to say a liberal idea, it's also about conservation.
I doubt we would play #Doom so much (maybe on Dosbox), without making the engine FLOSS. It is used in such a way, that it both helps preserving the original game as wit was, and extending it so much that you wouldn't say that it was once Doom. Which is crazy. #doom30
"Sign of Evil" hands down. Hearing it first time at the last level of episode 1, you could feel this is not the end of story, and there are bigger things to come. That evil is something that is always present, and the fight against it will continue, and will never end...
