my little brother has drug resistant, left hemisphere, temporal lobe epilepsy. he had an ablation a couple years ago, and it didn't do the trick. now he just got scheduled for a partial lobectomy.

I'm really terrified... I know that there's plenty of success cases, and his surgeon is apparently really great. he has seizures in his sleep so there's higher risk of SUDEP... so the seizures gotta stop. but he recently had a SEEG and the insertion of one of the leads caused a brain bleed. it was scary for a few days as he recovered (aphasia, severely worsened memory issues, etc).

they're saying he'll likely have some aphasia after the lobectomy, but that it'll get better. not sure how close they'll get to his Broca's. his memory is already not great, but it could def be worse (tho he's learned to mask it)

ugh.

so yeah... if any of our neuro folks or people with brain injury/epilepsy/lobectomy/whatever experience have any reassuring or comforting or important things to share, me and my fam would def love to hear them. 💜

Friday I got the best possible news. The remaining portion of the tumor has decreased in size by 50% in the last 9 months!
I’m very thankful to each & every one of you for your support! ❤️
