It's car registration time, and I was surprised to find that I've driven less than 1,500 km in the last year.
On the other hand, I'm now averaging about 500km per month on my #bicycle.
When there were jobs in the mix, petrol was about $60/week, then post-work about $60/month. Now that I've become a middle-aged guy who rides a lot but refuses to wear lycra, I spend about $60/year.
($60= a tankful)
So, the $ spent on a bike < petrol savings.
Therefore I need to spend more on #AliExpress#cycling goodies. 🤪
Also, I've discovered low-km, or pay-as-you-drive car insurance.
Initial investigation looks like my premium will drop by about $1,000 🤯
So, I'll be able to afford another bike.🎉
Also also, despite my weight staying exactly the same as it's been forever, my resting heart rate has dropped from 85-ish, to 55-ish over the two years in which I've accidentally become a bike rider.
🚴♂️
Thanks to a couple of mastodon folk who contributed at pivotal moments - a technical point which got me into doing my own maintenance, and an attitudinal one which has helped habituate riding.
So the crappy flashlight is just packaging to hide the batteries, even though they're Lithium-metal (non-rechargable and relatively safe).
Perhaps to bypass air transport restrictions (is Lithium-metal even restricted?), or perhaps to avoid customs confusing them with more dangerous Lithium-Ion batteries.
Chinese multinational #Alibaba, the owner of the online shopping portal #AliExpress, has stopped accepting payments in rubles and no longer allows the delivery of orders to #Russia, Russian business newspaper Kommersant reported.
Kommersant referred to a Russian economic expert, who "linked Alibaba's decision to fears of secondary sanctions, which have caused other problems with Russian payments in #China."
Found this on aliexpress...I know it's incredibly likely to be a scam, you can literally see the change in grain of the card around the text when you switch between different filetypes, but...I'm just curious. The reviews are mostly confused saying it's authentic, but with the occasional one saying that it gives errors around filesize...hmmmmm. I think you know what I'm thinking.
But even if it's fake...I kinda want it. Just for the sake of curiousity.
Got this in today. US #snes PSU. Was talking with some friends how hard it is to find these nowadays. So when I saw it on #aliexpress for only 5eur, had to get it. Big brick weighing nothing, so had to see what is inside... see for yourself. 110V only as well....
I’d like to read more about how these companies afford to have products shipped by air that are below the costs of others. Are they just burning cash and will burn out soon enough, or is this a really big problem (environmentally and for cargo) long term? https://cosocial.ca/@timbray/111970279833364431
I like how this #AliExpress vendor considers their dirt-cheap #Bluetooth audio receiver (to retrofit on analog home #HiFi sound systems) so good that there is a picture of a man crying tears of joy… while wearing headphones 😂️ Clearly a product meant for the #audiophile!
OMFG people, it gets better... there are additional "buyers' feelings" photos further down in that ludicrous #AliExpress product description!
A+ marketing, I'm totally buying 👌️
[Atomic Shrimp] while attempting to order #electronics components, encounters a common #scam on #Aliexpress where the scammer bait-and-switches the buyer on shipping costs, fails to deliver what was ordered and then attempts to run down the dispute resolution clock. https://youtu.be/Yf--E8zD3ok
Bought a couple of crappy usb #snes controllers from #aliexpress. Replacing a broken and greasy fake usb #saturn controller for an #emulation PC in a restaurant. I can't be the only one wondering what's inside these things, so here is a pic.
The whole project was fuelled by initally finding really cheap DC-to-PD modules on #AliExpress (links below).
And for cheap but powerful power supplies, there was basically only one logical choice: Used server power supplies.
The #HP#DPS ones are pretty nice and modding-friendly.
JFF, I did a basic #CAD mockup of how the modules and PSUs could fit together.
It was too stupid and cheap to not give it a shot :P
Garmin asking 60 dollars for watch strap. Bought one from a dude on Bosnian version of ebay for 10 euros. Could go even lower, but can't wait for AliExpress to send it.
Anyway, who buys this ridiculously priced accessories?
