, if people in & on here are serious about 2024 elections & not losing to Republicans & Conservatives in 2024 they need to spend more time talking to swing voters.

That means either getting them in here, on , or talking to them where they are.

@ArtBear disagree, both are hunting swing and soft opposition voters, they are leaving behind and alienating their existing base.

@Thebratdragon
I think I'm making a different point about how people on here allocate their energies, not the parties themselves.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@ArtBear but with the slide to the right, the parties are creating more swing voters by leaving behind the ones you are asking to influence the swing voters..

Take me, hate the tories with passion, but cannot in good conscience tell people to vote starmers labour as an alternative.

@Thebratdragon
People said the exact same thing to me about Blair. I can't vote for Blair. He's too like the Tories. Politicians are all the same. Blair is a red tory.

Parties are more than just their leader. Take for example emergency food parcels, Tories are not twice as bad, not 5 times, not 10 times, not 20 times, not 50 times.

Tories are over 100 times worse.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@ArtBear maybe so, but starmer/reeves/cooper/Lammy/streeting are not just red tories, their policies would put them in the current tory cabinet quite happily.

And your wonderful chart also notes, that food parcels and food banks started to be needed underblair/brown.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

@Thebratdragon
In Scotland there's a real alternative vote in the SNP.

BTW what the chart is showing is that labour did an excellent job removing food insecurity after Tories. That the 2008 GFC had an impact worldwide but the disgusting explosion in poverty & food insecurity comes from policy changes once Tories implemented new practices, DWP, PiP, DLA, IAS/ATOS, WCA.

letting Tories win, creates misery & gets people killed.

@ArtBear @Thebratdragon wait a minute, Labour lost the trust of disabled people when they brought about welfare reforms in 2008 under Tony Blair’s regime. It was those reforms, initially intended for new claims, which turned social security into the negative state it is now in. The Labour reforms to social security gave the Tories the tools they have gone on to use with such viciousness against disabled people.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@Lassielmr @ArtBear Also, Yvette Coopers great benefits reform, Universal Credit.....

ArtBear,
@ArtBear@catodon.social avatar

@Thebratdragon @Lassielmr
So why does the explosion in food poverty happen in 2013 not 2008?

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@ArtBear @Lassielmr it was already happening, gathering momentum as treasury and dwp measures tightened the noose and wages stagnated.

Blair used to trumpet about raising 1 million out of poverty (in the UK), but mention the 30+ million he dropped into it in Iraq, crickets.

Cameron just continued blairs work.

@Thebratdragon @Lassielmr
Did you know in the last EU elections, under a vastly more democratic voting system....

-> the Greens got more votes than the Conservatives.

Campaign for electoral system change, but always play the system you have, because the mega rich will for certain.
