I've been holding off on deleting my Twitter account, mostly for sentimental reasons, but the news about a "marketplace for unused handles" is making me reconsider.
I am not a public figure, so this might be less likely, but I still don't like the idea of having my account sold for a few bucks to promote crypto, or other scams.
I don't really link to it anywhere, but there's a few old embedded tweets on my site.
@stefan I stopped tweeting, then set my account to private after Musk bougth Twitter. Now enough is enough, I can't support this place in any way. So today is delete day (deleting messages at the moment, then account). I won't be an account in his stats anymore.
@stefan so dumb. I haven't deleted anything just because I don't really care.. I have several accounts there too, just sitting. I doubt any of mine will be reused, they're pretty specific and not too catchy 🤣 but what a ridiculous thing.
@andycarolan@stefan Ha! I've definitely downloaded my archive a time or two, I remember many years ago I tried to delete a lot of/all of my tweets and it didn't even work right 🙄 don't miss Twitter's bs.

I deleted my account, then, months after, created a new account just to keep in contact with a few people that never left twitter. Nowadays I still have that account but I barely use it. @FantasmitaAsex
@stefan I paused my use of Twitter for two weeks before deleting it. I noticed after a week that I felt calmer. I wasn’t getting frustrated with silly comments or outright racism/homophobia. Life is good without Twitter.
@stefan when I deleted my account I let go of any attachment to my handle there which is the same as it is here. Nothing links to it and no one would be interested in using it.
@stefan I got permanently suspended, tried to delete my account, Twitter won't let me, told me to contest, gets rejected automatically because Musk fired everyone human in that department, filled a form specifically to deleted a suspended account, got rejected again because there's no humans to evaluate anything, currently looking for way to report them since this is illegal in the EU
