hyc, 4 months ago @inkican manned jet aircraft have been breaking the sound barrier since 1947. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_X-1 Some unmanned flights did even before then. The SR-72 sounds cool, but "breaking the sound barrier in 2025" is a pretty ho-hum headline.

jbaggs, 4 months ago @hyc @inkican I think the point is this is a hypersonic drone (not sure why they didn't use that term) , and all of the engineering challenges that go with that. It's like a really fast cruise missile, but not a missile, and it does surveillance.
