SleepyCatten,

Okey dokey. So, I'm looking at viable to replace what was providing for me* & I'm currently at the initial information overload stage.

My current understanding is that Lemmy is associated with tankies & best avoided, but it's also the most developed option presently.

Kbin seems to me to be more of an upcoming star, but still lacks important features & an app.

What have been others' informed experiences?

SleepyCatten,
  • What Reddit was providing for me can broadly be summed up as:

#LGBTQIA+ #memes, particularly #trans memes.
• Safe spaces for #neurodivergent folks.
• Safe spaces for folks to ask questions about being trans & #HRT (esp. #DIYHRT) queries.
• Detailed info / experiences on #TransHealthcare.
• Allowing me to help others where I can with my experiences & knowledge.

alvanesaga,

@SleepyCatten I actually didn't use Reddit a lot when I was researching HRT and transitioning. My go-to references were the Dysphoria Bible, the DIY HRT directory (though I found an informed consent doctor in the end), Gender Analysis, and Twitter. Transfeminine Science is also good though more technical. Having access to that information saved my life and I hope I can help others in the same way the community helped me...

SleepyCatten,

@alvanesaga You might be happy to know that the lovely author of the Gender Dysphoria Bible is on the fediverse :TransFemHeart: 🥰

She's @twipped

jdp23,

@SleepyCatten wow I didn't know that, thanks for the info!

hungriestburger,

@SleepyCatten if lemmy or kbin are not of your liking raddle might be more your speed! they're heavy left and have THE most pro-trans pro-ND moderation i have ever seen. tho i wouldn't call them as open-space as either of the other two. you will def find a safe space for specifically trans subjects tho

@SleepyCatten So, we really really really don't like tankies and tried to install kbin but were unsuccesfful on the multiple attempts.

We ended up installing Lemmy as the alternative with the hope of providing our community members and friends atleast some protection from toxicity within the tankie side of the fediverse:

Current options for both are slim to none because both are software in their alpha stages. There's no doubt that someone's probably out there working on something right now. Lemmy has a couple of app options but they're very early stage too.

I feel sad that you lost all of that in Reddit. I never found anywhere safe on that site tbh, even marginalised communities would have a few mean intentioned people slip through the cracks (of course they'd get kicked though).

Because it's so early, the best you can do is create these spaces and find some trusted people who will help you maintain these things. I will be very honest, moderation tools are much much more barebones than any other platform I've been on.

I can try to help you find some spaces that already exist, I know Blåhaj.zone have their own instance and they're pretty safe if you want somewhere to start. I noticed in the mod logs the admin is very active. not sure about migration but baby steps, give it your best. 1/

oneheart,

@SleepyCatten I'm afraid it's going to be a while before there's a replacement what reddit was. There maybe places here or there that fill the void of a subreddit or two. :(

hazel,

@SleepyCatten Lemmy is fine if you stay off the "main" instances. That's where most of the tankies are. The devs are also tankies, which may be a problem long-term, but at present there isn't really another good option. So I'd recommend Lemmy for now, but keep an eye on kbin as it matures.

pixiekat,

@hazel @SleepyCatten lemmy.blåhaj.zone is great too and the admins are great. they defederate anyone who's bigoted or transphobic too and they're talking about defederating from lemmygrad too.

SympathyTea,

@SleepyCatten Been on Raddle for a little bit, its pretty good but the site is a bit jank (its someones first programming in PHP project), open source and I don't believe it is getting federation unfortunately
they have a decent amount of trans related stuff now but not nearly as much as prior subreddits
I'm sure this will eventually change with time

airsay,

@SympathyTea @SleepyCatten There was a small tiff between the developers of and over non attributed code, kbin copying code without attribution. I like both as they have very similar UI.
