I am often asked for templates for emails aimed at inviting new users and bands to our metalhead.club.

While I can understand that it's easier to use a template, customize it if necessary and send it, I don't think it's particularly useful at the moment.

Because: Recycled texts wear out. Bands don't want to receive the same email 10 times under different names and don't want to feel like they're talking to a machine. Personal recommendations and personal communication are important.

Some talking points that might help:

  • metalhead.club is free of advertising. We pay our server bills by asking our users for donations.
  • We do not sell user data and do not use it for tracking / user analysis
  • The servers are 100% powered by green electricity
  • metalhead.club is part of Mastodon, a decentralized and open-source concept for modern social networks. No billionaires, no big companies, everything is run by individuals or small businesses.

@thomas

  • if you take Mastodon seriously, you can generate serious interaction here, even with small(er) user numbers.

and always remember: Be nice. Don't be demanding. We're asking them for a favor.

Keep your text short. Focus on the important parts.

Second problem: spam filters will recognize our texts as mass mailings at some point and wonder whether they might be spam. We want to avoid that at all costs.

So do me a favor and try to come up with your own text if you want to recruit bands :-)
