@zachleat Cutting through recipe cruft is literally the one thing I'd want AI to do for me, but alas.

@zachleat I've noticed an additional trend that involves step by step, deep dive into the instructions BEFORE the ingredients list and final recipe (and after the life story)

(check out https://cooked.wiki/ if you haven't)

@zachleat I understand that sometimes this is done to make the entire page copyrightable, but am unsure if that actually makes a difference.

I find it super annoying, though.

@svgeesus @zachleat they are following SEO to get the page ranked higher by Google. If they just had the recipe it wouldn't score as well.

Here's a good read on the topic.

@zachleat @khalidabuhakmeh @macdonst @svgeesus I wonder how much of society is shaped by "appeasing the machine" like I get this here and now, but what about 50 years ago? We still do a lot of those things too.

macdonst,
@macdonst@mastodon.online avatar

@reconbot @zachleat @khalidabuhakmeh @svgeesus Yeah, the first one that comes to mind is "warming up the car" before driving in cold weather. We don't need to do that anymore but good luck trying to tell folks it's not necessary anymore.

@macdonst @reconbot @khalidabuhakmeh @svgeesus we aren’t talking about react-first development now—are we
