Ok

This was a good find by the @tubraunschweig students I was teaching today (with @ehrba)

Simbach (Inn) 🇩🇪 - Braunau (Inn) 🇦🇹

2.2km
3 min trip

DB price: €24,00
Or €10,90 per km

ÖBB price: €2,60

DB price is absurd

Map of Simbach to Braunau
ÖBB site showing €2,60

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

(The reason: DB can’t seem to sell you a price by km for the connection, so sells you a SüdostBayern Ticket valid for the whole region. Why it does this? 🤷‍♂️)

oneiros,
@oneiros@ruhr.social avatar

@jon If I were a politician in Simbach I'd be furious.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@oneiros Bayern. Trains. Small town. I’d doubt it!

moritzkraehe,
@moritzkraehe@zug.network avatar

@jon What's the system supposed to do in your opinion, if not offer to sell you the cheapest ticket it knows about?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@moritzkraehe A human ought to have checked! Or make a function “check Kilometerpreis too, and sell that if cheaper”

moritzkraehe,
@moritzkraehe@zug.network avatar

@jon DB doesn't hide any tickets from you. If it's not in the list, the system genuinely can't sell it.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@moritzkraehe except International Bahn can - for €4,50. Don’t get me wrong - there’s a bug here somewhere. This isn’t malevolence. But it ought to be fixed still.

moritzkraehe,
@moritzkraehe@zug.network avatar

@jon yeah, but that's a completely separate system. Does the app even talk to that?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@moritzkraehe Partially. But the issue remains: something has been coded wrong here. €4,50 not €24,00 is the right answer - so there’s a problem to fix, even if we might have some sympathy for why the problem exists.

Zugschlus,
@Zugschlus@zug.network avatar

@jon Computer Science ;-)

It's probably the cheapest ticket that is in the database.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@Zugschlus Yes. But some human ought to have gone “eh hang on, that’s wrong, we’ll fix it”

patrick,
@patrick@mendeddrum.org avatar

@jon @tubraunschweig @ehrba Looks it wants to sell you a Südostbayern ticket as the route is operated by ÖBB and they can’t sell ÖBB tickets? Should just tell you that though, instead of this.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@patrick or sell you a Kilometerpreis.
