i think im going to gut the entire matrixHQ room and just block it, block other rooms with a complexity over say 8 and be done with it. there's no reason niggas need to join rooms with 50k users in matrix's current shitty implementation

i was going to chip in and say isn't there some sort of social solution to that problem.

from my experience of telegram the bigger the chat the more you end up shouting into a hurricane and the less actual use you get from it.

@esotericdoge there's 3.1 billion events in that room in 3 months. 3. thats almost 2TB of on-disk data in database

that's ridiculous. i'm no expert but that sounds like bad design initially, but i guess the same could be said for a design that wont scale above a few hundred people.

at the end of the day just laying out the problem and saying this is why i'm building a fence is best practice.

@esotericdoge the matrix protocol is the worst designed protocol ever

we shit on pleroma a lot because of "database rot" (not a thing if you are on top of maintenance and purging remote shit) but matrix -- if you joined a room with somebody on the poast home server we have been storing your device data and online/offline status, your username changes and anything else for 3 years.

its a fucking crazy GDPR nightmare
