it's awesome that this youtube short (by @geerlingguy) about MNT Reform is closing in on 9 million views and 2500 comments. it's also weird/interesting that this doesn't translate into more interactions here or elsewhere, like youtube is kind of its own ecosystem
@mntmn@geerlingguy I can’t wait until I get my pocket reform and can unbox it on my twitch and TikTok for my audience in between my gaming on Linux streams. You have no idea how excited I am to make it my daily driver and literally keep it in my cargo pants pocket.
After reading through the comments of the short video, it is quite clear, why it doesn't. It is not the target audience.
Hacker for them is someone, who steals cryptocoins by brute forcing keys.
And a hacker laptop is a gadget to look like a hacker. It is obviously a scam for them at this price point.
@AdeptVeritatis Yeah it's mostly about reaching a different audience. If 0.1% of the 10 million viewers react in a good way... could still be worth it!
Another reason, why this does not work to raise sales, is the ecosystem, these people are used to.
You need to make your customers dependent on your product. Hype everyone until nobody can evade it. ("You use an ANDROID phone!??!!!") People are willing to spend endless money on skins, trading cards or other trivialities.
There is no money in software, only in dependencies.
Your product is the complete opposite of it. It MUST be a scam.
@mntmn shorts are like candy; people watch them for a quick bit of endorphins, then they forget about it and watch another. And they're not super healthy (IMHO).
Long form videos have much more long term value but don't get juicy view numbers :(
