Feeling like junk food but I don't have any. Oh, bit of quality dark chocolate on hand though, at least. Not the junky kind though.

Okay, you're standing in front of the Chocolate Bar Shoppe, with all the chocolate bars (aka candy bars) that ever were.
Which two do you get?

#chocolate

@ottaross
Raisinets and a Bounty bar

(Mostly because I boycott any product made by nestles. Water is Not a commodity, it's a right for all living beings. F*ck nestles.)

@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@OhOkKay raisins and chocolate are a great combo.

I was just noticing the Nestle logo on Coffee Crisp too. Don't remember that there before (I avoid Nestle too). I wonder if they've bought the brand at some point since my childhood. Haven't had one in years. Unfortunate. :(

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@OhOkKay I see Coffee Crisp was originally Rowntree, and started in 1938. Nestle acquired them in 1988, the bums. Unfortunate indeed.

I ate a lot of them in the 1970s due to a train wreck, but that's a whole other story. lol

OhOkKay,
@OhOkKay@beige.party avatar

@ottaross
Yes, they've bought many smaller companies in the last 2 decades. Coffee Crisp and Eatmore are 2 of my favourites but I don't buy them anymore. But honestly I mostly enjoy dark chocolate chips or Walmart great valu cheapo chocolate bars.

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@OhOkKay oh yeah Eatmore. It was confusing as a kid, but I liked it a lot later on. Sad that they've got them too. :(

OhOkKay,
@OhOkKay@beige.party avatar

@ottaross
Nestles owns so many products that aren't labeled with their logo. I have to do research before buying anything new. Soft drinks, coffee, tea, cookies, makeup .... the list goes on.

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@OhOkKay yeah, I've seen that infographic poster showing the big tree of where they have their fingers. Pretty unfortunate that they're not an ethical corp.

@ottaross dark chocolate Japanese kit kats and Rausch Costa Rica 84% bar

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@darwinwoodka oh yes, kitkat seems to do all their interesting stuff in Japan. Glad to see recently that the green tea version is available here finally at least.

What was the deal with "3 Musketeers" bars? That filling was a bit weird. Light too, so you didn't feel like you were getting as much value. Ah - here's a pic with the old packaging I recall

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

At this moment I'd take a Coconut and a Coffee Crisp.

A chocolate covered wafer layer with the flavour of coffee inside.

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

I think the latter is Canadian only. Coconut is available in a wider area I believe. There are similar ones called Bounty and also Mounds I think, that are similar, but I like the Coconut one a bit better.

There is a British bar I can vaguely recall, which looks like sort of a twisted ladder shape with toffee inside. We could find it here in Canada if you looked hard enough. I forgot what it's called, but recall if it was a bit cold when you bit it, all the chocolate falls off. lol

It's a tasty one though.

astrovore,
@astrovore@mstdn.games avatar

@ottaross that'll be the Curly Wurly. I haven't thought about one of those in at least a decade!

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@astrovore oh yes, thank you!

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

Aha - informed sources tell me it was called CurlyWurly.

A quick Duck search reminds me too that there was a Canadian version called WigWag which was the same, but was only in the 70s.

@ottaross When I was a kid it was always Big Turk. I get the impression they were Canada-only also.

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@zazzoo those were a weird shock as a kid, not knowing about "Turkish Delight." It was a bit of an acquired taste.

zazzoo,
@zazzoo@mstdn.ca avatar

@ottaross I always loved the gummy stuff. I'd go to Mac's and pick up a Big Turk if I had enough money, or a handful of gummy worms if I didn't.

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@zazzoo you were a kid with tastes beyond your years.

I remember the Bridge Mixture box had a few in there that tasted the same as Big Turk.

zazzoo,
@zazzoo@mstdn.ca avatar

@ottaross Yes it did! And I knew how to spot them and pick them all out, lol. Good memory on you, I had forgotten about those.

I had to go back to being a kid though, these days I'm not really into chocolate for some reason. Though on Halloween I may steal some Reese Peanut Butter Cups out of bowl ;)

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@zazzoo yeah I munch a single square of dark chocolate every other day, with a Lindt bar lasting a month now. I probably have one "chocolate bar" of the flavoured type only every two years or so. A rare thing.

The peanut butter cups are indeed a choice I choose too!

@qui_oui oh yum, those look good. The almonds one would get me for sure.
