Just discovered the fully online book "Cooperative Software Development" by @amyjko . It's now at the top of my to-read list.

In the introduction, Dr. Ko writes that the book focuses "on the many ways that software engineering work is cognitive, social, and organizational", and that "it does so by engaging extensively with academic research literature".

Alright, y'all - have finally had some time to get organized around this book club! This is what I'm thinking:

1️⃣ Let's use hypothesis.io to hold discussion. For those unfamiliar, it's an online annotation tool that you use via browser plugin, and it allows you to easily create and respond to comments. I've created a hypothesis group for this book club which you can join here once you've you created your account: https://hypothes.is/groups/y2pyMNra/cooperative-software-dev

(more in next comment)

2️⃣ I've "flipped through" the book's chapters, and I think this is going to be a fairly quick read. Let's time-box this club to two weeks, tackling chapters 1-7 during the first week, and chapters 8-14 the second week.

3️⃣ I'm sure many of us are ready to get rolling with this thing, so let's get started Monday, April 1st and wrap up Sunday, April 14th.

Looking forward to discussing with you all!

If anybody wants to book club this with me, let me know - I'd love to organize some dialogue around this topic and this (empirical) approach to understanding software work, teams, processes, etc.

There's enough interest expressed here, on LinkedIn, and in the LeadDev Slack that I think we've got a group of ~10 folks interested here! So, I'm going to put something together 😍 I love an async, document-based bookclub, so will go with this method, but we can look into scheduling a synchronous hangout once we finish the book if folks are interested!

More info coming soon. Thanks for being open to this - I think it will be fun!

@KFosterMarks I'm also really interested!

Any news on this @KFosterMarks? No rush, just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss it. 😉

@InnerAlien No news yet! I'm wrapping up some thing following an international conference last week, but setting up this book club is my #1 priority on Friday!
