Spent the last couple of hours updating my PS3 that had been boxed up for about 10 years or so, and recovering my forgotten US account.
Why, you ask?
Well, to finally do something which I had been planning for over a decade but never actually did.
To buy the two SMT Devil Summoner Raidou games, the second which never came out in Europe. 👹
Grabbed Grandia 3 as well as Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. 🥰
Bit of a mess to get funds to the console nowadays, but it's done.

I only had a Pal and a Japanese PS2, well 3 Pals and 2 JP systems, but never a US system, so I never looked into US only games, unlike with the PSone for which I had a mod module in the back to play imports and US only RPGs...
Not even sure if there's an easy way to make a PS2 region free nowadays actually.
@OutofPrintArchive it's kinda easy (no soldering) but takes a bit of work, buy a Free McBoot memory card off ebay then you can use OPL to run ISOs off the internal hard drive
To install the hard drive you need the PS2 network/hard drive adaptor and a little circuit board (ebay again) to change the old IDE connector to a modern SATA one. To get the ISOs on to the HDD is a bit of a pain as you can't rip NTSC discs in a PAL PS2 so you have to connect it to your PC and use a program called WINHIIP
If I ever find myself in a bind, I'll just get my Series X out of the box and boot it up in developer mode or whatever it's called again.
That way I can just emulate the PS2 games I can't otherwise play. 😉

That first Raidou game goes for at least €150 in Europe. So $10 feels like an absolute bargain.
I'm thinking that I might go on a little PS3 shopping spree this summer vacation. Been making a list and I'm pleasantly surprised as how cheap games are for the most part!

Just got Capcom VS SNK 2 from the Pal shop but it seems to be 50Hz only. Massive borders. 😭

I have it on disc from when it came out but still.
Most of my PSone games seem to be Japanese imports.
Umiharakawase Shun, Loop Salad, Ore no Ryouri, Chippoke Ralph, Harmful Park, Dodonpachi. All must haves.
I need to grab Parasite Eve! Never played either one.
And Dino Crisis as well.

Thinking about it, I really wish the PSone Tales games were on there. I loved those...

I thought I had Lunar on iOS from over a decade ago...
Perhaps I'm misremembering it and I'm thinking of the PSP version. Strange.
But yeah, I'm done buying phone games. Lost a ton of games when they switched to 64 bit or whatever it was and haven't bought anything since.
I don't trust Apple with a digital games library at all.
The Lunar games truly deserve a brand new and actually good translation for a change.
Just take the Saturn editions and translate those... 😭
I still don't understand how rights work on iOS.
Well, technically I do, but how is everyone just okay with it?
Seeing how when a game gets delisted on PS,Xbox or Nintendo, you are still able to download it if you purchased it before, then looking at iOS, and when you've had a magazine subscription to say, NGamer.
Future shutters the magazine, the app gets delisted and when your iPad crashes or you get a new one, you just lose it all.
@chris That's what made me go out and hunt down all the physical copies of NGamer and ONM and such to create my own digital copies despite thinking that they were way too recent to even work on them.
Oh btw, if anyone plans to buy PS3 digital games now (or Vita as well I think), you can't seem to do it directly with Paypal or a credit card anymore.
So you need to add funds to your account, either on the website or a PS4/5 in some way.
Then you need to remove the payment method before going to your PS3 digital store and buy the games with your store credit.
If you don't remove the CC, it'll ask you to verify your account and always give you an error, despite it being correct.

I vaguely remember soothing about that.
The weird thing was that even though I added funds to my PSN wallet on the we store without any issues. I could not buy the game on my PS3 until I removed my Master Card from my payment options, again though the web store.
It just kept giving me a validation error every time in PS3 at checkout until I removed my card.
@OutofPrintArchive I think they also started requiring you to authorize specific devices that year, and I decided I no longer wanted to keep my PS3 online. Which may or may not have saved me the hassle when PSOne Classic downloads were expiring on people in 2022.
@OutofPrintArchive Software downloads have an expiration date field, but it was always blank on things like PSOne Classics. Around the time when the Radical Dreamers edition of Chrono Cross was released, some people went to play the PSOne Classics version and found it (and others) were getting expiration errors.
Found out that I had a couple of delisted games that I forgot about.
Sega Rally Revo online, Outrun 2, After Burner, Marvel VS Capcom 2, The Simpsons, X-Men Arcade. 😊
One weird thing is that I seem to be missing some save data.
Not sure how that happened. Got nothing for Outrun or a Ridge Racer 7.
Can’t remember why as my last saves on here are from 2017.

@JTO_is_Typing Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me. We’ve been getting rereleases of licences games that I never thought we’d see again.
One thing that boggles my mind is how the PS2 version of Capcom VS SNK 3 is still on sale yet we don’t see it rereleased on modern systems.
@OutofPrintArchive I bought Outrun 2 for Xbox at CeX the day it was delisted from digital stores.
Ripped my disc to my PC so I can emulate it in future, but I never managed to get Daytona USA before it was delisted, or affordable on disc, only got the Xbox Live demo version.
Outrun 2 was actually the game that made me buy an original Xbox back in the day, that and Jet Set Radio.
A couple years later I sold the system as no more games were getting released that I was interested in. I bought it mainly for Sega games and little else.
Then Panwer Dragoon Orta released and I bought a transparent crystal Xbox to be able to play it. 😅
I also have Outrun 2002: Coast 2 Coast on PS2. But I'm really happy I have the HD version on PS3 at least.
