Has anyone taken the & E-Commerce Certificate from Coursera? Did it get you a job? My background is in web development and I'm senior level. No college degree.

@thor No, but I've done other Google courses. They are very good at covering topics succinctly and I recommend them to mentees who want to expand their skill sets.

Also: web dev is a solid background to have if you want to go into that field. Highly beneficial.

Some companies might not like the no degree thing but... I've had a 10 year career in digital marketing so far and have no degree.

@monsoonrains The degree situation is not ideal. I might earn more if I could fix that, but my tolerance for humouring parts of a curriculum that smell like nonsense has always been pretty low. I don't like to have my intelligence insulted.

@monsoonrains What does a typical day look like for you, by the way? I know no one who works in the field.

@thor So with content marketing and SEO, the very basic workflow isn't at all that different from web development. Solving fewer logic puzzles, I guess. You focus more on target audience, optimizing web pages from content and structure and focusing on how messaging. And especially for something like e-commerce, a lot of a/b testing to see what tactics work and bring leads/revenue.

@monsoonrains It sounds like something that could teach me how to run my own web business. Not something I really learned much about as a code monkey. Is that right?

@thor Yep. You'll learn about far more aspects of business generally. Especially with an e-commerce focus.

@monsoonrains It sounds interesting indeed. I sent an email to my advisor at the Work and Welfare Administration to ask them if they can cover the cost. They're know to cover courses but I'm unsure if they'll cover an online course from America. I'm in job coaching right now and it's a little bit up to me how I structure my time here, so maybe I can work out an arrangement where taking this course is part of the schedule there. They have computer labs there for that kind of work.
