BrynnTannehill74,

My latest for The New Republic. The truth of the matter is that a little less than half of the Republican base absolutely, explicitly, wants fascism. Our political system was not meant to handle this. https://newrepublic.com/article/177796/polls-republicans-trump-maga-fascism?utm_medium=social&utm_source=Twitter&utm_campaign=SF_TNR

The seems to be racing towards a tipping point. Arguably, considering , it is aready part that point.

peltast,

@BrynnTannehill74 A larger proportion of Americans than that explicitly want a democratic socialist country: one where the rich are heavily taxed and the poor are taken care of. But the US political system fights that off just fine, because no elites want it. The problem isn't that a percent of voters admit they want fascism but that almost all of the political elite want it at least a little bit - all GOP and most Dem elites think fascism would suit them just fine.

@peltast @BrynnTannehill74 I fear you are absolutely correct in your assessment. Your concluding sentence really stood out to me - “When Trump takes power and turns the full might of the government against anyone who might resist, the guardrails of individual conscience will evaporate faster than a snow flurry in hell.” As someone who does not live in USA I greatly fear what effect this American fascism will have globally.
