@JamesGleick they are always looking for someone weak and vulnerable to attack. Ultimately MAGA doesn't want their kids in schools. They want them home schooled with the gospel straight from Saint Trump.
@JamesGleick because books make people smart and broaden their perspectives and teachers teach things and both are counterproductive to a fascist movement that requires it's base to not think and only act on fear and feeling. No thoughts, head empty, just scared of drag queens.
Attacking education is the first step in cultivating a new generation of fascists. The younger generations were becoming too educated, everything was getting a little too blue around here.

Republicans are attacking public educations and libraries because they want to destroy public education. If education is privatized, they can control who gets an education and what kids can learn. They want to deny opportunity for anyone who threatens their permanent hold on power and they want to subjugate women and minorities. If we're dependent upon them and ignorant, it's easier to maintain control of us.

@JamesGleick A lot of librarians (but by no means all) lean more left than right. And a lot of teachers (again, by no means all) are union members. These are the people who want others to read, read anything they want.
