I found the Community "Ask men over 30"! There are some good questions I also asked myself. But looking at the answer count, it seems that there are no men over 30 on Lemmy...

Ah, there's the reason.

I seeing some meta discussions about lemmy in general and about lemmy in comparison to reddit. It seems that (survivorship bias!) people on lemmy consider the atmosphere on lemmy more pleasant. Example: https://feddit.de/post/1948030

But actually the comparison to reddit isn't the thing that really is interesting for me, but the comparison to mastodon. 🧵 Lemmy is much more about discussion, about dissenting opinions. It's much less about screaming into the void. I often find it quite impolite if people disagree on mastodon. Most of my post on mastodon are "sharing something", like a link, a post by another user, or a thought I have. Sometimes I ask for something, most of it creativity and jokes, like funny bird names. 2/

On Lemmy, I think I would mind less if someone talked back. The whole page isn't structured around persons, but around topics. Can one even follow another person? 3/

It doesn't seem so. 4/
