Wow -- the first hit in a Qwant search for paypal was a paid ad for an obviously fraudulent site. (How do I know it's bogus? For one thing, this isn't a Windows machine.)

Does anyone have an ad-free search engine the like? I'd rather pay a subscription fee than have useful results buried in ads.

@peterdrake I’ve asked before and the popular reply I received was to try https://kagi.com/ I also tested Startpage which provides Google results anonymously. DuckDuckGo with Bing results is producing poor results. I think Brave Search is becoming popular because it is a new engine and not another site providing Google and Bing results.

@jnv @peterdrake Brave has serious privacy issues, though, and the people running it are untrustworthy, and their insistence on crypto usage is suspect as well. Don't use Brave.

@peterdrake What's wrong with DuckDuckGo?

@LouisIngenthron Non purely ad-free, but it looks like a good candidate.
