Apparently, you simply can't have a folder of photos uploaded in the cloud. No. It has to be "an experience" with painful memories resurfaced, dead relatives repacked in the "best of" autogenerated albums, reminders of long departed pets set for you every year. Deleting all my files from #GooglePhotos.
You can disable all the stuff that triggers autogenerated memories. Unfortunately, this doesn't stop Google from shoving "Best of" slideshows. They simply can't resist it.

I was browsing looking looking for a photo from a site inspection for work the other day while it started popping up a bunch of emotional memories... so disturbingly annoying and inappropriate.
