Just thinking back to myself in my teens and 20s, I was certainly much more inclined to argue with people who viewed the world differently than myself. Now that I'm older, I find I lack the energy to deal with those interpersonal conflicts, and increasingly want to avoid them.
I had, for a while, been considering hosting a local instance for an area that doesnt have one. But after seeing the fediblock and fediadmin stuff that took place over July and August, I've changed my mind. I simply do not have the capacity to handle the stress of administering a social media instance, even if other people were doing or helping with the moderating.
A themed forum limited to a particular topic, or a themed discord with 'ontopic' limits, I could do, but not general purpose social media.
I do think the younger people are somewhat more likely to flare up and get blocked, as well as to sometimes overreact, but I couldnt tell you how strong that correlation is.
