I don't particularly like this site, however, a company such as this setting troublesome precedents is just Free Speech 101.
That said, the EFF hasn't been particularly proactive about defending sexual expression on the Web. This is kind of an annoying American cultural thing where sex is somehow more taboo than whatever it is that this site does.
And you know as well as anyone else that they've been criticizing these bills and carrying petitions.
In this situation, there aren't any particularly "good" answers. Set a dangerous precedent to take down one particular unpleasant site?
@kkarhan@eff I'm a bit confused by this statement. EFF has been sounding the alarm on KOSA, Earn It, etc. They even put up a whole round-up of action tools back in July. Why do you say they've been quietly accepting?

Needless to say #KiwiFarms is the last thing they should defend, and even if they did actually get their asses up regarding #cyberfacism in the past, allying with #Hategroomers and #StochasticTerrorists that have a literal bodycount of 3 confirmed and a dozen unconfirmed does undo everything they did well in the past...
@kkarhan@KelsonV@eff I think there is kind of a distinction with a T1 provider, it is a greater bottleneck.
It is frustrating how seemingly ineffectual they can be in fighting for free expression. They're a free speech group, but unless the government is passing a bill, they nap in a lot of cases.
Government authoritarianism is important to oppose (and I suppose you don't want core infra providers with itchy fingers), of course, but so much is of a more corporate nature.
When I say free expression, I don't typically mean Joshua's little site here, it's more basic things like sexual expression, art, and more.

When they do comment on that (sort of), it is primarily in the context of infra.
#HurricaneElectric isn'a a Tier-1 and even if they were, there is no legal mandate for them to accept anything or provide services to anyone.
Espechally since there's no legally enforceable #NetNeutrality :loading: nor are they regulated as a "utility service" with "must provide" clauses.
Providers are already very twitchy and they'll block entire ASNs if they get listed by #Spamhaus.
#KiwiFarms is indefensible thus invalid discussion.
I'd follow @eff's argument if they also protested against financial embargos with no legal backing by payment processors against anything even remotely considered "sexual".
It only applies to KiwiFarms' ASN, so it's not as if there is any collateral damage to it.
You can make the argument about censorship by big providers once GMail, YahooMail, Outlook.com/Hotmail/Azure Hosted Exchange/GoDaddy et. al. do process abuse reports and don't just randomly block stuff...

I'm not defending KiwiFarms, and I don't agree with the EFF in this particular case. If you want to continue that part of the conversation, please leave me out of it.
I'm only disputing the claim that they've ignored left-leaning issues, because it just doesn't track with what I've seen watching them.
We ain't talking about some fundamental human rights violation against the shitheads that use and maintain KiwiFarms.
In fact, I'd say the continued existance of KiwiFarms violates far more peoples' rights than could benviolated by it being DROP'd as it should've been ages ago.
Just like blocking all traffic from GeoIP'd ASNs originating from Russia, China and North Korea is usually considered an act of self- and mutual IT defense.
#HE could've chosen to instead force the other providers connecting #AS397702 to DROP them under threat of terminating them as customers, but that would've had actual collateral damages.
