It features a cough Behringer TD-3 on squeals, my beloved Grandstand Talking Computer on vocals, Elektron Model:Samples on drum duties and a beautifully unpredictable Yamaha E1010 analogue delay on FX duties.

Track 2 on my #DAWlessJams1 EP is a reinterpretation of Mr Oizo's Flat Beat.

It features a double cough Behringer RD-6 and TD-3 for beats'n'bleeps, Elektron Model:Samples for sampled drums and stab, Korg MS-10 on bass and Sequential Circuits Six-Trak for sound FX.

This is the closest I've done to a (crappy) music video with multicam and enhanced "found" #FlatEric footage.

On track 3 on my #DAWlessJams1 EP I started my journey of incorporating DIY #electronics elements into #MyMusic.

Here I'm showing off my gritty MIDI-syncable digital delay (based off a cheap PT2399 module) by varying the track's tempo.

It works great on my 303-clone, and I've been using it pretty much ever since (although it's currently in Germany).

Trailer of my live DAWless jam "That Echo Track". There is a Korg MS-10, Behringer RD-6 and TD-3, Arturia Beatstep, Elektron Model:Samples, Sequential Circuits Six-Trak and Roland JP-8000 synths visible, as well as a DIY delay unit inside a cardboard box, badly labelled with a Sharpie. For anyone interested here's a peek into the innards of the delay unit.

It consists of a cheap common PT2399-based delay PCB off Aliexpress, a few extra pots, an Arduino Uno and a DIY MIDI interface for MIDI tempo sync.

This one was recorded in Germany with a slightly different and more limited setup- just what I could fit into a suitcase, plus my dad's old multitrack as a mixer and a Yamaha RX11 drum machine he got second hand in '89 or so.

Trailer of my live DAWless jam "ArpWeRX11". A Yamaha RX11 drum machine controls the MIDI clock on a Behringer TD-3, which in turn controls the arpeggio speed on a Moog Werkstatt, via a DIY Raspberry Pi Pico-based MIDI to CV interface, which also passes the MIDI clock to AxDelay, a DIY PT2399-based delay unit inside a cardboard box. The audio output of the Moog goes into a Korg NTS-1, where flanger and delay FX are added, the output of the TD-3 goes into AxDelay and a separate clap output from the RX11 goes through a Korg Monotron Delay. Apart from 4 red DAC daughter boards, the Pico also has a separate PCB for DIN MIDI in/out and a green PCB with 4 sliders to control an envelope generator affecting the VCA and VCF on the Werkstatt. All audio is then recorded on an old Zoom multitrack recorder off screen.

Apart from the TD-3/DIY delay combo from my last video I am using a Korg Monotron delay on the RX11's clap and an arpeggiated Moog Werkstatt-01 through a delay/flanger provided by a Korg NTS-1.

As there is no MIDI or sequencer on the Werkstatt I wrote a hacky #MicroPython script to produce a hardcoded, but MIDI-synced arpeggio on CV1 and a user-controllable envelope generator on CV2.

I'll write more about the #Electronics side at some point in the future, but it'll be a while...

Here's the long overdue video for track 5 on my #DAWlessJams1 EP, entitled Werk It (it was my first proper Moog Werkstatt track).

It also features a #Teensy as a serial to USB host MIDI converter, so I could use my JP8000's arpeggiator with the Werkstatt (via an Arturia Beatstep as MIDI to CV converter) and a weird DSP Effects unit from China.

Trailer of my live DAWless jam called Werk It. A Roland JP-8000's arpeggiator is connected via MIDI to a breadboard with a Teensy 3.6, a few resistors and an optocoupler on it. The Teensy is connected to an Arturia Beatstep via USB MIDI, whose MIDI output controls an Electron Model:Samples groovebox on the far left on the screen. This in turn syncs a Behringer TD-3 synth. The arpeggio controls a Moog Werkstatt via the Beatstep's CV output. Its audio output is then routed through a DIY FX unit inside a cardboard box labelled AxFX v1.0. This is very spartanic and only has a 2 digit LED display and an encoder knob to select the preset. As the FX unit's output is 100% wet I use a small black mono mixer to send the Werkstatt's dry output to both the unit and to my main mixer (not pictured). The main beat and bass are all produced by the Model:Samples, a second synth line later on in the track (see full video) is produced by the TD-3, whose output goes through my MIDI-synced AxDelay (see track 3's video for details). Parts of me can be seen twiddling knobs and wiggling my bum.

That's exactly what made me lose interest in Techno in the mid 90s (I lived in Brighton for a year), which was either getting fast and cheesy or minimal and boring (with many exceptions of course).

Luckily Jungle & all those other exciting broken beats came to the rescue...

I still get confused about subscribing, and using the button only works for subscribing to someone from my own Peertube account, but I can click copy on an account or channel and paste into my Mastodon search box
