I need book recommendations for software related books to buy via company budget.

Something in the wider area of #php #symfony #webdevelopment #softwarearchitecture and more

And also further recommendations on how and where to spend remaining education budget 👀

@Flyingmana if you haven't read The Phoenix Project yet, that is definitely recommended. @editor has some cool PHP-related books as well.

@Skoop @Flyingmana @editor I was telling @john how that book activated my PTSD from my time working for a large Enterprise company. The book is so spot on. John said he had read a follow up called "The Unicorn Project" which I haven't gotten to yet.

@eric @Flyingmana @editor @john I still need to read that as well

#Ddd by Evans
Was a revelation for me

@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

@dgoosens @Flyingmana @editor for DDD I'd go for the red book instead of the blue book for front-to-back reading. blue book is fantastic as reference material

dgoosens,
@dgoosens@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @Flyingmana @editor

lol
funny... I would say the opposite

tell you what, read both !

@dgoosens@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @Flyingmana @editor

come to think about it

  • the blue book, by Evans, was the revelation... it's more abstract, it describes a vision if you want
    the thing that makes you dream as a Dev, at least, me

  • the red book, by Vaughn Vernon, is much more concrete if you want...
    it's the book that shows how to realize the vision

probably explains why the blue book did have such an impact on me

Skoop,
@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

@dgoosens @Flyingmana @editor I had a really hard time getting through the abstract of the blue book. I started to get it after starting in the red book. which is why I always say: read the red book and use the blue book as reference, to understand specific items
