I watched The Andromeda Strain a film I had never previously seen, but recall hearing about the book from a friend. The movie was released i 1971 and was directed by Robert Wise, based on Michael Crichton's novel of the same name. A satellite crashes in a small isolated town, and mysteriously almost wipes out all the inhabitants. A military team is sent in to retrieve the satellite, and contact is lost with them. The rest of the movie is spent trying to determine what happened by studying the satellite and it's contents at a secure underground location. It's basically about a bio-hazard, and seems somewhat timely., although the movie itself is dated, yet still feels compelling. I found it interesting that the special effects were done by Douglas Trumbull, who later worked with Wise on Star Trek the Motion Picture. Kind of wish Trumbull had worked on more films. #movies
