You aren't suddenly "not a kind server" because you have friends or family you want to talk to on Threads... but don't want to have to use Threads to talk to them.

Ultimately, I wrote what I felt was just, accurate reflection of minding your own business and enjoying what you enjoy and fuck off if your not happy with my choices. But of course in more polite terms.
@MartinGuay Yep. I get all of that and I agree. It wasn't really about the stupid "I want to change the rules" thing so to speak. It was all about how we as admins were approached with a bullying attitude as that's what several other admins mentioned, long before I ever mentioned it.
@cliffwade@britt I’m not an instance admin, but in my opinion, because of how widely followed @FediTips is and how respected they are in the Fedi community, I feel like they have a much bigger responsibility to stay neutral when it comes down to Threads and other Big Socials joining the fediverse. Delisting communities because they’ve decided not to block Threads.net is not helpful. If you feel the need to distinguish between instances that federate with Threads and ones that don’t, why not just add a tag that says something like “Federates with Meta/Threads” and let users make their own choice? Perhaps it wasn't done as well as it could be, but my current recommendation is that most instance SHOULD defederate because most users came to here to NOT have ads, their data shared etc. etc. etc.
@3dcandy You don't get served ads in any way at all. It's literally not happening and not going to happen. There would need to be tons of code put into place for Mastodon to serve us ads.

@3dcandy It doesn't matter if one does it a bit more than another. Your data is NOT safe, period. You can't single out Meta when most everyone else and most every device you use has a company behind it that's doing the same things.

@3dcandy Fined or not, they are still using your data. They can afford to be fined and to continue doing what you are using their devices for. Meta is NOT the only company doing this.
