There's a lot of focus on to migration, but the overall story is quite a bit bigger I think.

The offers huge opportunity for independent journalism in a world where so much of media are consolidated and in the hands of shady mogul billionaires. In other words Fediverse is both a threat to existing business models, as well as market opportunity.

Though I don't know if it applies, this toot was triggered by: https://dair-community.social/@ZekuZelalem/111207098660272388

We can expect a whole different vector of corporate entries in the #news / #journalism field. One that gets less attention than, say, a Tumblr corporate entry. A market where the corporations operate more in the background, under the radar, as it should be the journalism parts that stand out.

Thanks @indieterminacy for passing the link to these newsie.social developments.

To be fair, we get a sense that many instances are operated by those who are invested in highly questionable endeavours, which make them function similarly to a large corporation.

One of the goals of Fediverse proponents like us is to make setting up secure instances fairly easy, and not too burdensome. We think isn't able to provide such, but with and no javascript, maybe it can.

We wonder how and I2P-friendly (eg. ) might help.

@dsfgs

This brings me to a #FediverseIdea to add to https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediverse-ideas ..

There's a range of characteristics that would be great to know about an instance and its management that aren't currently known, or easily available.

There should be something like a manifesto and checklist that's discoverable to figure out good from bad players. Stuff that helps do due dilligence before choosing your instance.

It might be part of NodeInfo 🤔

That colourful witch symbolism reminds us that we need to publish the final touch to our #fediverseIcon at https://git.disroot.org/fediOrigami/fediOrigami

We discussed removing the three trianlge version and just focus all the attention on the simpler design but we've been snowed under.

It will get done.

First step to having people accept a new thing is to have a palatable icon for it that doesn't instantly repulse. It boggles us when people don't realise how repulsing the pentogram actually is.

dsfgs,

@smallcircles
The redundant red (fedi icons) are still on our page too :/

For those interested, recently we produced a standard set that works alongside a . Most people who have a presence also have a presence, so the red fedi icons currently at https://git.disroot.org/fediOrigami/fediOrigami will be removed and replaced with Peertube , both red and orange.

As pictured.

Stuff just needs to be put into the git well-presented and pushed — but hours… :)

The new hero icon to replace the clunky, three-triangle style one still on the git page. Discussed mid-2023 with people including SmallCircles, who helped confirm that the three-triangle version was not needed.
Peertube icon picker to help people choose an orange or red peertube icon for their site.

We really didn't plan for this to happen today. We must blame (thank) @realcaseyrollins and @dcent 🙃

The bloody thing metamorphosed!

Fedi logo, the brutalist version. Nice.

realcaseyrollins,

@dsfgs @smallcircles @bob @lsn @dcent Okay this is epic

Thanks for that feedback both!

Great to know people are enjoying the development. We aren't 100% certain that the antenna fully read as antenna of a butterfly quite yet, but we do embrace the idea of a "social butterfedy."

…tinkerers welcome (previous SVGs):

Can anyone find that person who was doing the banners for the legacy social?

We just realised, that they could overlay any image over the above using a multiply blend in the layering. Possibly could be combined with a washed out colourise effect on any photo too, they might be able to offer customised banners to people still on legacy social sites. :P

This instance is in a wind down phase and it seems we only have 2 days of past info available. :(

dsfgs,

No matter @realcaseyrollins @smallcircles @zleap . Found him.

Hi @BjornW see above, if still interested in the idea of banners, you could make bespoke banners as pictured. In GIMP we overlayed a jungle banner image with the above, duplicated as two layers, one layer is 'Multiply'-blended (90% opacity), the other is 'Screen'-blended (35% opacity).
