Linux needs to be more unified. - At least with the basics.
I mean, I like that you have choices among distros, but the locations, for example, config files or apps should be in the same locations. The contents don't have to be the same but at least the locations of where things are would go a long way.
@itsfoss another unpopular opinion concerning Linux?
Package names should have the same name across distros. They can still be uniquely configured differently, but the package names shouldn't be widely different from one another across distributions.
@itsfoss There's nothing wrong with trying to make a profit off of your software.
Mozilla are not your friends.
Being patient with Windows users who want to get into Linux is a good thing.
GNOME sucks.
@itsfoss I like simple names for my applications, like "Files" for my files, not Dolphin, Thunar or PCManFM. Like, come on! Who came up with that last one and though it was a good idea?
@itsfoss Your average Linux desktop environment is more user-friendly and more consistent than Windows.
The only advantage the Windows desktop environment has nowadays is that your average person has decades of experience using it, and making a paradigm shift is hard.
@itsfoss GUI configuration tools are not evil. Should have more of them.
I started with system configs using DIP switches, and jumpers, then autoexec_bat, config_sys, and win_ini, even faffed about deep in the Windows registry.
Not saying it needs to be 100% GUI, à la F̵i̵s̵h̵e̵r̵-̵P̵r̵i̵c̵e̵ MacOS. Simple, text-based config files offer immense granularity. As long as that option is there, cool.
@itsfoss There are too many distros. The overall quality and feature depth would be higher if more people would work on less distros.
Nobody needs
"New ubuntu based distro with a theme change and a small feature addon". People should submit fixes and improvements instead of making their own useless distro.
@itsfoss From my experience, even tho Linux might be too complicated for adults not intrested in computers, it is excelent for children. Especially GNOME and it's apps. Hard to get lost, hard to break, easy to do everything you need. And my siblings prove it.
@itsfoss
Although a large variety of FOSS are easily available on Linux, some of the popular softwares which are otherwise available on windows and ios are not available for linux. Installing those softwares on Linux with Wine is a nightmare.
