I can't figure out how to open links to magazines/communities on other instances in kbin in order to subscribe to them. Clicking on it opens the instance in a new tab. Pasting its link into Search for magazines usually comes up empty. I

For example today I saw this post with a link to a lemmy.world community. I click the link and it opens that community's lemmy.world page in a new tab. If I click Subscribe on that page, it asks my for my instance, I enter kbin.social and I get a kbin.social page with 404 Not Found. If I try to search for it on kbin with either the name or the full link, I just get "Empty".

That's just one example, it happens with lots of other ones, too, especially new ones. I've managed to pull foreign ones up sometimes. I assume those are cases where kbin.social already "knows" about a community because someone else on here has interacted with it.

So how do I subscribe to these things?

Is there a way to customize the "top bar"?

The theme options in the sidebar allow me to "enable top bar" but when I do, aside from the standard-seeming "All", "Subscribed" etc, this top bar lists a bunch of seemingly random mags. Is there a way to customize what's up there? Or at least set it to list my subscribed? as-is it's a bunch of mags I have no interest in

gentleman,

@ernest When does Kbin expect to reopen its APIs? Saw a post from a dev on my former platform who wants to create a mobile app for Kbin but APIs are currently closed. Thanks very much you are doing a heroic job!

sanjosanjo,

I'm a new user and I'm a little confused about why I'm receiving a lot of posts in German from reddit.de on the main kbin.social page. I don't remember ever subscribing to anything on that instance. I have some lemmy.world subscriptions mixed with the local kbin magazines, but I checked on lemmy.world and I'm not subscribed to any German content there. Does the default kbin.social site show German content by default?

@ernest

In Mastodon, it is very simple to migrate from one instance to another. You retain your followers, those you follow, and your messages.
It is something essential in a community that is growing so rapidly and can overwhelm any instance with limited resources.
In /kbin, we are experiencing the same thing these days with the . There aren't many instances yet, but we could help a lot if it were easier to migrate to another instance with less traffic than .social.

etx,

Hi all,

Is there a way to track and collect data on how long each request takes?
Twenty eight seconds to upvote a post is pretty painful.

How can I do SPOILERS here on KBin ? I've tried all the usual markdown tags and none work

blacksheep,

What is the difference between boosts and upvotes?

Is there a way to collapse comment threads? Can something like that be added please.

I've read boost are like retweets from twitter

Upvotes are just to express you agree the opinion expressed in the post you upvoted
