So what's the difference between @theverge and @verge? I thought their feeds would be identical. Is flipboard.com now kinda like newsie.social? I'm glad that #flipboard is getting other media outlets that aren't already on the #fediverse to join it in whatever way they can, but I'd much rather theverge.social exist. With #threads federating, now's the time for all those outlets to establish their own official social servers...

@wjmaggos @theverge @verge This is something I spoke about with @david_pierce before we launched. We are all figuring this out together. In the end, different services will be used for different use cases by the same user in the fediverse. This is exactly what happens today but with different walled gardens. How this all shakes out as we federate different networks together is going to be interesting.

@wjmaggos @theverge @verge @david_pierce In the end I think it will be important to have a single verified identity for The Verge with a set of feeds you can follow from the various services they use to post and engage from. It should be seamless in the user experience, sort of like how when I look at my email I can see multiple inboxes combined or separate. Lots of learning and building to do as we establish the open social web.

yep. media having their own servers would make this so much simpler...

@wjmaggos @theverge @verge @david_pierce @davidpierce I think that's what theverge.space is all about. All of their journalists are on it now and verified. Super excited to see what they do with this.

@mike @theverge @verge @david_pierce @davidpierce

but looking at the profile for David, it says automated and that it's a bot. and that the real David is at mastodon.social. very confusing.

@wjmaggos @theverge @verge @david_pierce @davidpierce further, I think users will be a lot more interested in following and engaging with journalists than business entities. The linkage between these will also be fascinating to see develop.

this is what the profile info says for the "AT theverge AT theverge.space" account:

Disclosure: theverge.space is not affiliated with The Verge or Vox Media

You can follow the official (articles-only) bot here: mastodon.social/@verge

@wjmaggos @theverge @verge @david_pierce @davidpierce hah. I got that wrong. I'll stop now and let David talk about this 🙂

    right, I read that. anybody can create a flipboard.social account. that's awesome too. but then what are flipboard.com fedi accounts? kinda like two-way RSS feeds for media on flipboard? I probably just don't understand #flipboard.
