Windows has done this for years. I spent literal days trying to turn off Cortana, and even deleted it from the registry.

It reinstalls with every update and cannot be turned off. Task Manager shows it is idle, but then why is it even on?

It constantly listens to you. It is spyware.

This is one of dozens of reasons to switch to #Linux

@Jeramee @jakob_thoboell @tagesschau Lucky for you that Cortana is being deprecated in favor of Microsoft’s new AI-powered spywa—ummm— virtual assistant!

It's no problem. I already fixed it by switching to #LinuxMint!

You just made me think of something: Why, exactly, is Cortana being deprecated? They spend a lot of time & money on just the name, not to mention the marketing, etc.

Siri & Alexa are household names, but Cortana?

Just how awful was Cortana that they had to trash it?

@Jeramee @jakob_thoboell @tagesschau Cortana never had the market penetration or acceptance that the other two assistants did, especially since Microsoft failed in the smart phone market. It certainly didn’t help that Microsoft chose to name their assistant after the VERY creepy AI concept from Halo.

And speaking of creepy AI, here it comes built into Windows, Google, built into apps, and damn near everywhere.

Did people just PRETEND to read #1984?
