As you may know I am not a big fan (at all!) of "reaction videos". But I just stumbled into a young (apparently Irish) woman working her way through the original "The Prisoner" -- and she was on the last episode "Fall Out".

So I watched to see if her brain would "explode".

Yep.

@lauren what a series! Rewatched it recently with a friend who'd never seen it, and it definitely holds up.

@timrichards I consider it to be, overall, the best television series I've personally ever seen. And I've seen a lot of TV series!

@lauren Yes it is arguably the best TV series of them all, I've long thought so. I've visited the Village at Portmeirion a few times too, beautiful place: https://www.smh.com.au/traveller/inspiration/portmeirion-wales-an-architectural-fantasy-in-an-idyllic-setting-20190109-h19wdq.html

@timrichards I'm never going to get there, which is a bummer.

@timrichards @lauren

I liked the series quite a bit, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it best, but that's the great thing about different tastes.

I think it's vastly underated though.

There are some very clever bits.

I may rewatch. Curious to see how the pacing holds up, being so different than current tastes.

@pseudonym @lauren Holds up well I think. And still seems so daring and innovative in many ways.

She said "Holy Mother of God!" at least twice during the episode, and at the end, discussing the entire series, "What an absolute piece of art this was!" Indeed. Welcome to the club! You will never be the same.

Watch out. Watching YouTube people react to shows you have already enjoyed can become strangely satisfying.

@tcely Normally I find them unwatchable. But when I first stumbled into her viewing the first episode I decided to see how she felt about the last one. By that time, of course, she was fully versed in the entire saga, to the point that she was quickly catching the important hints and cues. And she was loving every minute of it and didn't want it to end. She got it. Which is a testament to McGoohan of course. Almost 60 years since the show originally aired, and it still impacts with a timelessness that still works. A piece of art, indeed.

@lauren

This is of course the correct reaction to the finale.

I've been to Portmeirion a few times, even stayed there. It had a tiny shop selling Prisoner themed gifts, and the person running it was correctly attired with the jacket, and never broke character when he was in the village. I always gave him a cheery 'Be seeing you'.

@TonyJWells I've never been there and no doubt never will, which is a shame. I know about the store (apparently in the same location used for the exteriors of his room) but I didn't know there was an in-character guy running it. That is very cool.

@lauren

This was late 80s/early 90's, when cosplay outside of a Star Trek event wasn't really a thing in the UK, so everyone thought he was a bit strange for keeping the 'act' up.

It's a lovely place, although falling apart and needing a lot of maintenance. Also a lot smaller than you'd think, as it uses forced perspective to make some of the buildings, and the whole town, look bigger.

@TonyJWells Yeah, the size difference is something everyone seems to mention, and it's more obvious in some of the footage showing the shoot in progress.
