So, Tesco's boss has just seen his wages for the year gone, nearly double to around £10m....

As you might get the unions are not pleased, especially when society wide wage growth is under 6% in nominal terms and essentially still flat-lining in real terms.

The Sado-monetarists of Threadneedle St. will be saying, 'aha but CEOs are a small group who work hard & don't impact inflation'; in other words: one (economic) law for us & our mates, another for you lot!

"pre-tax profits had soared by 159% to £2.3bn". I remember the days when a very good year for profits meant employees got a very chunky pay rise or bonus too, basically as they significantly contributed to the profits.

If this were a 50s sci-fi movie, the radiation from the current extreme solar storms would give us all the ability to see the extraterrestrial lizard aliens living among us as they really are instead of in their human-appearing guises. The twist at the end is that we discover we're ALL lizard aliens.

@lauren Then big plants take over and a tripod arrives with a big brain alien. Let's not forget the giant ants.

I keep calling them cubesats, but the Starlink satellites are approx 250kg and cost around $250,000 to build, so, assuming they can be returned and upgraded, cost-wise, this might work as vehicles such as Starship will often be full going up, and almost empty returning.

My ex-student Steve Pickering is a busy data analyst; his week he's contributed to this piece on religious affiliation & vaccine uptake.

headlines:

  • Religion significantly related to COVID-19 vaccine uptake.
  • Church of England affiliation linked to higher rates of vaccination.
  • Lower uptake among Pentecostals, Muslims & Roman Catholics.

It may be religious leaders rather than religion belief that is the issue (which is sort of implied in the research)

On which note it's worth reminding Americans that Brits do NOT say:
— elevator
— sidewalk
— railroad
— faucet
— crosswalk
— automobile
— 18-wheeler
— bellhop
— drugstore
— freeway/highway/turnpike/interstate
— parking lot
— attorney

(There are synonyms/equivalents but these are specifically AMERICAN things that flag you up as a foreign devil.)

As you may know I am not a big fan (at all!) of "reaction videos". But I just stumbled into a young (apparently Irish) woman working her way through the original "The Prisoner" -- and she was on the last episode "Fall Out".

So I watched to see if her brain would "explode".

Yep.

TonyJWells,

This is of course the correct reaction to the finale.

I've been to Portmeirion a few times, even stayed there. It had a tiny shop selling Prisoner themed gifts, and the person running it was correctly attired with the jacket, and never broke character when he was in the village. I always gave him a cheery 'Be seeing you'.

This was late 80s/early 90's, when cosplay outside of a Star Trek event wasn't really a thing in the UK, so everyone thought he was a bit strange for keeping the 'act' up.

It's a lovely place, although falling apart and needing a lot of maintenance. Also a lot smaller than you'd think, as it uses forced perspective to make some of the buildings, and the whole town, look bigger.

300 million-year-old fossil lycopsid in the Manchester Museum.

It's been in the museum since It was discovered in Clayton, near Bradford in the 1880s, and is one of the largest in the world.

It's more closely related to modern mosses than trees.
