"Chancellor Olaf Scholz is putting Germans and all Europeans in danger. His current policy seriously risks defeat in Ukraine, which would embolden Moscow and raise the likelihood of a wider war with Russia..."
"Mr Scholz is effectively broadcasting that Germany is afraid, can be bullied and blackmailed, and that it is not willing to stand up for its values and interests via victory in Ukraine."
@osma@abolitionniste Germany is already transferring a lot of value to Ukraine. While I agree that Germany should send Taurus to Ukraine, it might not be the most effective way to support the war effort.
Also I agree with the stance that Scholz should be clearer regarding winning the war. Unfortunately, he communicates in all topics like that. His vice chancellor would be way better. He wanted to send stuff before the war.
@prefec2
I am very aware of the monetary value of Germany's contribution. I am also very aware that in comparison to GDP, it's far behind many smaller nations and that much of that contribution has been made only after a protracted process. @abolitionniste
@osma@abolitionniste I totally agree with you on that. Scholz slow in response. Interestingly the opposition does the same thing. While they recently changed that a little bit, it looks more like a show off move than really their policy. SPD and CDU have both ties to the fossil fuel industry and it might be that what makes them slow to react. As they want to do business with Russia after the war. Another issue is the austerity party FDP which limits investments. 1/2
@osma@abolitionniste And the third issue is that the German military is not in a good shape. This has less to do with funding and more to do with the inability to source equipment in an effective and efficient way. This came out in the 1990s, but has not been addressed properly ever since. Still helping Scholz to think faster might help. 2/2
...West is currently insufficient. This is why even national-economy-first President #Macron had to concede in the meeting with Poland's leader #Tusk and #Scholz to now buy ammunitions for #Ukraine on the global market, instead of sourcing it only from #EU companies, #America First" style.
It is all connected and the #Sovjet stockpiles in the West are now depleted. Production is being ramped up. Too late, alas. But this is where we are.
