I mean, fair is fair. You don't just nilly-willy port 's assets or any other developer's IP, for that matter, without licensing. It's problematic not only for the violator, but for originator down the line, as well. Such is the case with , and same with privately made gizmos from .

Whether some proprietary things were made in good faith or not is irrelevant, because, from standpoint of business, both this and depending project end up in association of some sort (unlike endorsement where both sides support each other on "paper").

...is but a consequence of dev understanding that their fan game won't make it to the finish line where it can proudly stay storefront and let Valve rest in comfort, knowing that it's linked to decent use of assets and not yet another wasteland.
