Soundgarden's 'Superunknown' still sounds just as amazing as it did when I bought the CD from Circuit City in 1994 when I was 14. Easily one of the greatest albums of all time. That day, I bought my first 3 CDs ever -- the others being Jar of Flies and Versus. What a YEAR for music 1994 was.
@axtevision yesss! Everyone knows Black Hole & I love it too, but that was the 3rd of theirs I heard though, Fell was first, then Spoonman. And the videos! I never had MTV but I had a 2-tape VHS deck. My friends would tape all the videos and bring them over, I'd make VHS compilations! But yes - Limo Wreck is my fave on here. Maybe my favorite song of theirs altogether. Chills every time. All THROUGH this album!

@Defiance right?!? Like an acid trip. Which is, ironically, what the song "4th of July" is supposed to be about on there- one of Chris'? My fave song on the album is Limo Wreck forever. But there is SO much good shit, Like Suicide gives me chills (and not because of Chris' end). The shit going ON in that song, it's like Zeppelin but BOOSTED, the guitars, riffs, textures 🤯 It's sad, one of my favorite songs of theirs isn't on this album, "Pretty Noose" but I can't really listen to it anymore after what happened. Too creepy
I had this badass Soundgarden "Kickstand" shirt around 1995 probably that was done by an artist called Pushead. I wore it til it fell apart. Wish I still had it 😂 They sell for a lot now (see attached sold eBay listing, not mine).

@sarajw 😂 that's a great lyric too! Is it Black Hole Sun? hahaha. My wife I think maybe only knew that one, she's a MASSIVE fan now. I was pretty actively listening to rock radio then, and I think I heard "Fell On Black Days" first and then maybe even "Spoonman" before Black Hole.. but wow. What a trio of singles. I mean, those 3 already, but this whole album, it's a full listen for me, every time. I break it out every so often. I can kinda ALWAYS listen to it. It's like heavier Zep or Sabbath really. Who I love also. But don't tell anyone, I love Soundgarden more than both. hahaha. If you ever get a chance, this album is a RIDE - I posted the YouTube to it in the post above this one. 😍
@sarajw they remind me of a European Gin Blossoms or Lemonheads or something, I love just good catchy rock like this haha. Hell, my favorite band is the Smithereens who were of course OBSESSED with the British invasion 😂
@jake4480 honestly I have no idea how big they are or were! While looking for that video I found a recording of the song taken at a gig in Bristol last month, where you can't even hear the guy because of everyone singing his lyrics back at him, so they're some level of popular still.
Incidentally that drives me nuts, last time I went to a Frank Turner gig I ended up going home halfway, his fans were all blokes singing so loud I couldn't hear him, it was weirdly religious, I just had to leave!
@sarajw oh wow that's crazy hahaha. A band from around here I really love is playing nearby soon and they asked me to go, I just don't know that I will. We live pretty far from stuff, I mean, I'm 43, I love shows but I'm not usually up front or near a pit anymore, I'm often in the back 😂
@jake4480 yeah I think I've just lost that gig feeling. I can go to swing bands and dance, lol (or I could before virus of doom), but that's different.
@sarajw haha yeah. I'm a homebody kinda too, I don't always like dragging wifey, sometimes she likes stuff but if not, I don't wanna just leave her alone at home, either, I'd just rather be with her 😂
@jake4480 if you like the style I feel like they're might be a really late example of a "Manchester" 'baggy' sound (though apparently they are from Birmingham). A sort of jangly, sometimes dancy British indie style.
Another super British sounding band of around that time of the Twang was Hard-Fi.

@sarajw ohhh okay yeah I've heard this one! Also reminded me of Coldplay a little, I am NOT a Coldplay fan though so it's wild when I can hear something similar and still like it. Oh wow checked out Hard-Fi too, REALLY dig them. Great voice and vibe
@jake4480 Coldplay and Travis were so good but got deeply overplayed in the UK. Some people react to them in the same way others with react to Nickelback, lol.
@sarajw ha! When I first saw the 'Yellow' video out somewhere, I was like, huh. They kinda sound like Radiohead. Which wasn't too bad, I dug Radiohead. But then the rest of their songs, NO. Same with Maroon 5. Harder to Breathe was great. The rest? NO. hahaha. And Travis I remember digging at least a couple songs. Now THAT is a name from the past I recognize! 😂
@sarajw oh and Nickelback - BEYOND yuck, but I do remember kinda liking that first song, before the others came out, and weird surprise, one of their newer songs is HEAVY, like metal, it's bizarre hahaha
@flyintheflannel oh man. My world changed that day haha. I can still listen to all 3 albums, too. Wife is a huge fan of Soundgarden/AiC too so it's great stuff we can both listen to together. Last night she sent me this incredible dude on TikTok who did a cover of a Backstreet Boys song singing like Chris and it was INSANE haha. Made the BB song like 300x better 😂
