My 3 kids (& husband & I) are starting to have more struggles sharing one console & I think it might be time to invest in a 2nd Switch. But! I have some questions:
Do we think Nintendo's next console is coming soon? The Switch is 7 years old...
Does the Lite version still pair with pro controllers? Any cons to the Lite other than can't dock it?
Will my kids have to 'pick one' for their account to reside on??
@syntaxseed I think its highly likely we get some sort of "reveal" this year (late) and a new console released in 2025.
Lite does pair to all controller types, can use pros or joycon as needed. Only other con I could think of is potential for stick drift and you can't just replace the 'con, would have to tear down and replace the faulty component
I can't speak too much to your last question from experience. I have an OG switch and an OLED, with the OLED being the primary, and the old....
@syntaxseed my backup, which my son uses (7), but if he is playing anything he's mostly using my account for the save data etc and isn't playing much on his own just yet
Yes, we anticipate a new Switch console sometime early next year, so waiting might be best!

Your kids don't need to "pick one" you can sign both of their accounts into each Switch, and they can just choose their account when playing. Note: Save data backup/sync between consoles is a Nintendo Switch Online subscription feature.
Trying to avoid dropping around $400 CAD for something that might get replaced by the next gen Nintendo soon or that will cause a bunch of account headaches. 4/5 of us are on the Family plan subscription. Youngest doesn't have an online account yet.
@syntaxseed I really would wait. I'd expect news of the next console some time within the next few months....Late fall at the latest, but nothing is guaranteed!
Many are expecting the Switch successor to be backwards compatible with the Switch library, but nothing's confirmed there either yet!
