If you're involved in electronic music-making and you're not white, please DM me on here.
I've just been watching loads of #SuperBooth footage and was aghast at how overwhelmingly white the whole thing is. I've seen more diversity at EDL marches.
So, I'm gonna try and do something about it. And the first thing is organising.
@Jyoti Dude, I am so white I glow in the dark and I approve this idea! Obviously I can't help with this effort directly, but I wish you amazing good luck!
@Jyoti You might browse my Electro/EDM posts (about 250+) from Africa https://amf.didiermary.fr/category/electro-house-edm/
I'd recommend looking at Nyege Nyege for a start.
GQOM is a huge movement from SouthAfrica deeply connected with the LGBTQ community.
@Jyoti I had been thinking similarly recently. I listen to a lot of electronic music, and it’s almost entirely male and white. I’d really like to expand that a little.
It needs WAY more women represented as well as minority groups. It's particularly annoying as electronic music has so many women pioneers but music tech courses and electro events are still hugely blokey.
If you’re seeking to branch out, would definitely recommend Ahmed Helmy, based in Alexandria, Egypt, who does amazing mixes, especially for big names like Armin van Buuren
@RobW@Jyoti Mary-Anne Hobbes show on 6Music does a lot to centre female, trans and non-binary artists, and especially those of colour. People like Sherelle, Nia Archives and Loraine James worth checking out if you like the junglist end of things. Also Jamz Supernova on the same station - lots of broken beat, house and r’n’b from a very diverse array of producers.
I've gone to a lot of EDM shows, over the years. Outside of the Bass Music scene, the "big" acts have always seemed to skew heavily (continental) European ...and male.
