bogosort,

I'm not sure it makes sense to make a call on whether this is the right/wrong decision when we know next to nothing about the specific reasons leading to the removal.

Could be legal reasons, could be something in BWF's contract, or maybe it's purely for the personal comfort for Ashley (which if so, overrides anything else imo). We do not know.

I'm sad to lose the content too. Especially all the insight from the cast, and the BTS interviews. But I also cannot blame them for removing it, it's totally within their rights to do so.

GMs, how have you used ChatGPT to help run your games?

ChatGPT has been a lifeline for me as a GM with little spare time to prep and far too grand ambitions for the scale and scope of (D&D) campaign I want to run. I'm curious how other GMs have found ChatGPT and similar AI tools useful or helpful in running their own games. I'll share my own workflow below as a comment, and I hope...

bogosort,

Just to chime in with a different perspective, I don't use ChatGPT and have no plans to. Although I totally understand why some may find it useful, and don't have judgements towards those that use it for personal purposes.

For me, one of the many reasons I enjoy DMing is specifically to push myself to improvise and creative. I wasn't encouraged to be imaginative or creative as a child, and so as an adult I often find myself trying to make up for that. As well as letting go of the fear of not being in control, and having fun with making ideas on the spot. It also feels much more fulfilling when something I make up ends up going down well.

Also I tend to like coming up with new concepts that go against the grain, or at least attempt to. And while ChatGPT is good at scraping and spitting out what has been done before, I ambitiously want something that is more surprising or unique than what it offers.

bogosort,

there are at least three of us! (as of now)

DMs, what are your favorite parts of running this game? Players, what are yours?

I’ve started running Curse of Strahd and have been having a ton of fun making wacky homebrew things for my party and tweaking the module. Unbeknownst to the players so far, I have made them all a secret Dark Power trying to use them to usurp Strahd and Vampyr, and they’re just waiting to offer their dark gift....

bogosort,

DM here, mine is a bit vague and cheesy but whatever. Favourite part is seeing how excited my friends get when something cool happens! Whether it's pulling out a spicy combat encounter, or they connect the clues of some big plot point, or they pull off something heroic and/or disastrous in game and we all know it's unforgettable.

Being a DM feels a bit like hosting a party (except less overwhelming). It feels like giving gifts to my friends in the form of a fantasy world. It's highly fulfilling, and we end up weaving many joyful memories together.

(Also hello from a fellow Curse of Strahd DM!)

bogosort,

We're at the start of our campaign (they've just gone though Death House) so I've yet to dig deep into it but I have been taking a close look at both MandyMod and DragnaCarta.

At first I was preparing to follow MandyMod closely with the Fanes and stuff but it ended up getting a bit overwhelming for me and I realised I didn't actually need or want all of it. So I've dialled back a bit and am just taking bits and pieces of inspiration wherever fits. I've liked stuff from both supplements so I'll probably continue to do so, although I have to be careful with MandyMod because there's so much homebrew lore in it that I need to remind myself what is module lore and what is fan lore. Nevertheless, there's a treasure trove of stuff to add which is a really nice change for running a module.

I haven't actually heard of the interactive tome, marvel missed that but I'll have to check it out!

bogosort,

Love the general non-DND RPG epiphany moment, I definitely relate to that. I asked the DND question just cause of this particular mag but I 100% agree with that sentiment. My first non-DND rpg was Call of Cthulhu, and similarly we had the same feeling of "no spells? guess I gotta figure out something else creative...".

I think that dabbling in other ttrpg's has actually improved our DND games. Bringing in new flavours and ways of thinking that don't occur until opening your mind to other systems.

I still love DND but it's certainly an eye-opener to mix it up once in a while.

Is there any one else who feels like their life has been disrupted by this whole debacle with Reddit.

I really do like KBin and Lemmy and the fediverse on the whole, but development is still young and the userbase still growing. KBin is still basically early access, and Lemmy is buggy. I spent alot of time in reddit and I'm feeling the pain of trying to ween myself from it. Just wanted to here community perspectives and see how...

bogosort,

This is a great answer.

I feel like I can do away with the doomscrolling and time-wasting, but it's the specific advice and hobby subs that will be difficult to tear away from completely.

bogosort,

I guess I'll kick off some discussion here!

I'm genuinely loving this show. It's right up my alley in terms of the vibe, and I love me some horror. This episode certainly felt like a ramp up in stakes as we build towards end of this groups arc. 3 scars in just this episode alone!

I have high praise for all sides of this production. I'm still wowed by how insane the set is, the sounds, lighting, music, costume and props are exceptional. Down to the very cups they drink from. You can see how much this influences the players at the table, and how much it advances the fun for them. I know in my homegames, something as little as the GM lighting a candle adds so much, this is another level.

They did a great job picking this particular cast to kick the series off. I've been thoroughly impressed by what each of them bring to the table. With this episode in particular, Robbie took me by surprise with how heavily he leaned into failure and consequences - which was awesome. Having only really seen him as Dorian (and the TOTK one shot), it's been great to see the other side of him in a more serious setting. He has some great horror chops, as seen by the brain scar moment. Knowing he's relatively new to the TTRPG game, it's so fulfilling to see how well he's taken to it and having massive fun along the way.

I love this entire group and I already feel sad to let them go after one more episode next month!
