William Gibson’s Neuromancer will become an Apple TV+ show

The novel will finally make it to the screen after decades of false starts.

yads,

@arstechnica maybe I'll finally be able to understand what the heck is going on in that story

I lived in LA during the first E-Scooter pilot program. Woke up one day and there was just these electric scooters everywhere. You unlock them with an app and can ride them anywhere you want to go. Once you're done, you just leave it wherever. Then someone else can come and take it to wherever they want to go. If you take one home and charge it, you get paid some money.

It solved so many problems. You didn't have to find parking, it was often times faster to travel by bicycle like vehicles due to traffic, you didn't have to worry about getting your vehicle back home if you got drunk, nor worry about having to lock every part of your bike to every other part to stop thieves disassembling it.

Ultimately, it wasn't a good business due to a multitude of reasons. The difference between ride cost and cost of production meant scooters had to do hundreds of hours of rides before people totaled them or threw them in the sea or they couldn't break even. People were force to ride on sidewalks and mow down pedestrians because there's no bike lanes. Residents petitioned and had them banned due to people leaving them blocking driveways or littered across the sidewalk. Literally every single one of those problems would be easily solvable if it were a public service instead of a private business. Some regulation, enforcement, bike lanes, and what you have is an incredible inner-city public transport system.

yads,

@malwaretech we've had scooters here for 4+ years now and they're super popular. Abundant bike lanes do seem to be a big factor for their success though.

#WOTCstaff: We understand some cards are too powerful and/or take fun away from the game, especially for players who can't spend hundreds of dollars building decks of the most powerful cards.

Also WOTC staff: Here's a "free-to-play" event centered around the absolute most oppressive cards available, and if you haven't spent hundreds of dollars buying Anthology packs, you won't be able to compete. Also, it has a great prize you'll definitely want.

Fuckers. 😒

yads,

@tapandrollgames since when is 1000xp a 'great prize'?

"I've got an hour to kill. I think I'll install Command & Conquer and play a mission or two"

Three hours later

"Ok... so apparently if I change my system's language and use a third party launcher after cracking the version I installed from the EA App the game won't crash on startup"

I am still not playing Command & Conquer. 😡

It was working just fine the last time I installed it from Origin on the same PC. So... something broke it.

@Gwendolyn that's so ridiculous!

Oh my. This article ‘The case against self-closing tags in HTML' is a blast from the past!

I sure am glad that we've abandoned #XHTML ! What a pain it was!

@michael ah indeed good point. That stuff was annoying 😂

Have people looked at lately?

In all honesty, the experience is nice and makes me wonder why this continues to be banned to shadow realm of .NET, known as Full Framework.

If you want a straightforward DX then this works.

Additionally, it doesn’t require a web socket or heavy Wasm payload to work (). Finally if you hate writing , this adds interactions without the need for scripts. Given JS payload sizes, what’s a little ViewState payload?

yads,

@khalidabuhakmeh My issue with webforms has always been that it abstracts the web away from the way the web actually works. It also sends requests for things that wouldn't normally require the server if the interactions were coded in JS. I can understand the draw if you're primarily a C# programmer and need to build a web app though.

DoctorLURK, to MagicTheGathering

One thing I've noticed since restarting #MTGArena is that some players seem to drag their feet really hard during the first few turns, only playing when their fuse timer is nearly depleted. It's pretty vexing because once you show them that you aren't just going to quit, then they start playing more attentively, but it can take upwards of five minutes to get through the dead time. Does anyone know why people do this, especially in unranked modes? I get gambling on an opponent's impatience if there's a ranked win at stake, but not for a friendly game.

yads,

@DoctorLURK Maybe I'm just naive, but it could likely be several things:

  1. They're doing something else like watching a video during the first few turns
  2. They have a bad internet connection and MTGA is notoriously bad at networking
  3. They're trying to get you to quit, but pretty unlikely if they pick up the pace later on

My guess it's likely point 1, especially in unranked. There are so few benefits to playing unranked that I'm not sure why you'd play it.

yads,

@DoctorLURK ranked is weird on #mtgarena due to the hidden MMR. If you end up losing a bunch and tanking your MMR you end up getting paired against some wild decks

After starting with #Lemmy a few weeks ago due to the #redditmigration decided to try out this whole fediverse thing. Very cool concept, glad to be on board
