I was climbing back into bed in the dark room and reached down to pet Cinder goodnight. except she wasn't in the dog bed I thought she was, she was in the other one and I just couldn't see her. 😂 she must have been like, why is she waving her hand over that empty bed?!

first day of the three day infrastructure bc/dr discussion and design over. interesting and useful and ended before the scheduled 1900. I do love ops work honestly. 🫣 we'll see how things go tomorrow.

was checking some of the voice of america archives online earlier looking for something (did not find. however fil is going to send us a dub). that said, I did find a new-ish (2022) book on the cold war, voa russian service, and rfe/rl. https://www.nebraskapress.unl.edu/potomac-books/9781640125148/

the vendor was not helpful at all but I came up with a potential way to preserve the structure of the data warehouse after implementing this major change. ran a test last night and this morning and it seems to have worked (🤞🏼) now I need to figure out how to explain this clearly this to the controller who has been in a panic about this. the test environment is slightly different-- but not because of the change to the system. anyway.

aw man. our neighbors were just trying to repair their driveway (because everyone kept falling and getting hurt because someone painted it) and the city made them put in a U driveway 🙄 twice as expensive. lol this city wtf

our erp system has some exposed configuration for the data warehouse where you can add or remove certain custom fields from it. when you do that, it saves the configuration but throws a popup directing you to notify the administrator because they have to actually do some manual work to have the change take effect.

there's no notification to anyone automatically when this happens.

xantha,
@xantha@petrous.vislae.town avatar

so what happens when someone removes a field from being exposed in the dw but doesn't notify the admin? the field continues to be available in the dw even though the configuration says otherwise. chances are someone didn't want to remove the field anyway and it was an errant click.

months later you take a copy of the configuration in order to test the entire erp system in a sandbox environment. fresh DW build. guess what, that removed field is ... removed. (technically never actually added)

if anyone has any suggestions on how to make rugs stay put on their rug pads when my exuberant dogs run across them instead of coming up and getting jumbled (rug pad is staying flat). there's no real furniture to hold it down and I'm kind of balking at velcro but might be the right choice with these cheap cotton scrap rugs.

(I want the dogs to continue to be exuberant. I have no issue with them playing and running up here. it's their house too! this is their open space to wrestle in.)

In order to shop around for new homeowners insurance since asi-progressive is non-renewing us, these places all have to do credit checks. OK but now we're going to have all of these soft credit checks and it's just so stupid. 🙄

played guitar for about an hour and it stayed in tune throughout all my bends and stuff so I think we're good. I did stretch the strings pretty thoroughly. only that one locking tuner funkiness (and too long string) to potentially contend with. still can't get over 85% on this one song I've been practicing.

@xantha@petrous.vislae.town avatar

got it done. one of my locking tuners wasn't screwing properly and I was lamenting that I didn't have replacements on hand but I managed to fix it. that said, I may still need to replace that string (B) because it got a little hinky and ended up having too much play to get up to tune so now there's too much string around the tuner (with locking tuners you don't want extra string wrapped around it, give it space to move and get out of tune). #guitar

a blue green electric guitar with a floral pick guard lying on a table with the old strings removed from the headstock and just hanging across the guitar from the bridge.
the back of the guitar with old strings hanging out through a black cover with slots. you can see springs inside the guitar body
a pale skinned arm holding up a blue green electric guitar with fresh strings on it and a floral strap hanging over it that kind of matches the pick guard

did solve a question I had which was whether this has reinforced strings or regular slinky 10s on it- it had reinforced. I put regular slinkys on but I'll switch em out later if I hate them (they should be the same, only difference is the reinforcement at the ball end).

fretboard was pretty gross! all clean now.

used a trick I saw where a fellow used the paper of perforated top of a string envelope to clean out the nut slots and the bridge saddles. then he uses a second perforated top to apply a scant amount of white lithium grease to the nut slots and saddles. worked great. I love little tricks like that.

I didn't expect the caps to win this series or anything but I also didn't expect them to get swept. not looking good here in the second intermission of game three. #StanleyCupPlayoffs

they're building a house across the street from us and there are workers standing on the very tippy top cinderblocks inserting rebar into the channels , two stories up in the air. no harnesses no nothing just standing on the blocks.

well, we've joined the list of people whose homeowners insurance company is non-renewing.

"after careful consideration, we are unable to offer you a renewal policy due to a reduction in our hurricane exposure"

so now we scramble to find a new policy somewhere. fun times.

solved an issue someone was having with a webapp I'm responsible for. issue wasn't with the webapp at all but someone (my teammate) had deleted an enterprise config that a ton of our legacy webapps and vendor tools require. luckily: I figured it out before the erp system stopped working for everyone. (THAT would have been a shitshow) not really my job per se here but thankful I was able to get the person fixed and prevent a huge disruption.

looking up changing strings with locking tuners. I've actually never changed strings on an electric guitar so 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm sure it'll be fine. it's not rocket surgery right

xantha,
@xantha@petrous.vislae.town avatar

ok. my floating tremolo is more of a question than the locking tuners. i might have to do one string at a time which is too bad because I need to clean my fretboard and it's a lot easier with all the strings off. this is a next weekend task when I have some extra time.

fwiw. I switched to cinnamon-clove toothpaste and I don't have any nighttime reflux anymore. 🤯 have I been suffering for DECADES for no reason.
