As solo dev I mostly use local or selfhosted software but recently I got a teammate and I needed tool for collaboration.
There is a lot of options, but I wanted something that is privacy respecting and wouldn't use all my data to train AI. I decided to tryout Cryptpad. It had simple looking Kanban boards similar to Trello.
I was surprised how good it is! It has everything I needed for organizing work.
My favorite feature was ability share boards as password protected so anyone can edit it without account. This way we could start working as soon as possible and other people were not forced to create account if they didn't want to.
I highly recommend it to anyone looking for alternative for Trello (or Google docs).
@mzcheli I currently selfhost Trilium Notes, Nextcloud, Fresh RRS feed and Forgejo.
I have been looking for a new project /knowledge management tool to selfhost and currently leaning bit towards Anytype but the search for perfect note taking app continues.
CryptPad will probably solve my basic needs for project management but I originally left Trello for ClickUp because it was bit too limiting so in the end I might face similar problems with CryptPad.
@LexGear I can try later again. My uses with Wacom has been minimal (pretty much just signing documents). I will guess I will have the same issue.
But I had similar issue when I originally used the software on Windows and I needed to use the "Wacom Center" to change the draw area. Not sure where you can download the same software for Linux.
I'm willing to eschew OneDrive completely if there's a good alternative that has Linux/Mac/Win support does not rely on CLI to do anything and is competitively priced.
(Again, anything where I would need to use a terminal/console is not an option)
@afreytes Yeah, Nextcloud has nice auto sync and that what I personally use. Selfhosting/finding good providing might be different issue.
When ever @protonprivacy Drive finally decides to add Linux support they might another good alternative, but that's probably far in the future as I cannot find it anywhere on their roadmap.
In Finland (some) high schools offer laptops for school use and these are running Opinsys OS (or Puavo OS), debian based distro. More info about it: https://puavo.org/
This is amazing and hopefully it makes more people become familiar with Linux!
I'm doing another one of my little surveys, this time to see which parts of using #Linux on the desktop are the most problematic, and the various issues people are having.
I'll make a video on these results next week, and depending on the answers, maybe I'll make more videos on specific issues, either to explain these topics, or to see how we could improve.
So, here is the form, feel free to fill it out and share it around, so we have as many answers as possible!
@thelinuxEXP Can't wait for full results! I have to say that most of my problems with gaming are related to kernel anti-cheats so that is more issue with developers than Linux itself.
One of the things holding back Linux is that local retailers do not sell Linux computers/laptops. Image if you had choice between two similar computers but other one is over 100 euros cheaper.
If Toyota cared as much about sustainability as they claim, they wouldn’t be the #1 enemy of EVs. Instead of lobbying to prevent competitors, maybe they should’ve competed.
I’m upset how the ethical choices in this story are between Tesla run by its 🤡…and the 🤡 auto companies
What if the US gov dropped these weirdos and put its EV spending into public transit…?
@hen I cannot find the video/article that I originally watched, but it mentioned that Toyota is ignoring EVs/lobbying against them because Japan has issues with energy production and their grid probably could not handle electric vehicles. It shows that all the companies that got the lowest score are from Japan.
They clearly try to influence the market for their own good.
@Wanderbot Really great write up! My personal fear when sending mass emails to content creators was that my emails get flagged as spam. It would be helpful if requests would somehow get "seen" confirmation but I know that it is not reasonable to expect content creators to reply to every email.
I asked this in Godot Forums and got no answer so maybe someone in the fediverse knows. I am using node2D.DrawTextureRectRegion to draw my sprites. Currently all my textures are drawn using the same Node2D which is why I cannot flip the sprite by flipping the node. DrawTextureRectRegion has support for “transpose” but this only swaps the x and Y axis. Is there way to flip textures when using DrawTextureRectRegion without flipping the node? #godot#godotengine#gamedev
Let me try to explain my drawing system. So I have a list of objects that I want to draw. These object contain information for drawing such as position, part of the texture draw (Texture is sprite sheet I want to draw for eg. second frame) and the texture.
I loop this list and for each of the "object" I call image below. So node2d in this case is same node for each of these.
@PsychoSchneewittchen So I am pretty much just using Godot as drawing engine and whole game happens under one node. Hopefully this provided more details.
Its’s a feature-packed, beautifully designed Pokédex app for iOS.
Ketchup is an app I’ve wanted to make for years, and it’s been an absolute delight to work on these past few months, and I’m thrilled to finally get to share it with you.
Been using a, client-supplied, Windows 11 laptop for work.
Windows 11 is utter shit trash garbage. I literally cannot understand how anyone at MS use their own OS and say, "Yeah, this is better than what we had before.'
Add that Win11 will have inescapable AI and Ads... And when Windows 10 gets sundowned next year I think it will finally be time for me to go back to Linux.
