Yesterday I learned about the hashtag.

So, here is a very purple iris from May.

@IcooIey And the photo doesn’t do it justice of course. It was PURPLE

Not a fan of this headline. 1.5C is not a “point of no return” for the #climate but rather a global goal to minimize human suffering. It’s not a magical tipping point.

Every fraction of a degree matters (1.5C warming is less bad than 1.6, 1.7 etc.).

Things are already bad - no need to make headlines more alarmist than they need to be!

waiterich, to food

Redoing my #introduction:

I’m a #food & #climate researcher at the World Resources Institute (https://www.wri.org/).

I’m interested in solutions to feed a growing population while protecting #nature & climate—from improving #agriculture and #LandUse to reducing #foodwaste to #diet shifts.

I’m the Data Lead for Coolfood (https://coolfood.org/) and work on the GHG Protocol (https://ghgprotocol.org/) and Science Based Targets Network (https://sciencebasedtargetsnetwork.org/).

Looking forward to connecting!

Fact-checking Elon Musk’s incorrect statement about #farming and #climate change: https://factcheck.afp.com/doc.afp.com.33LP6PR

  1. #Agriculture, #forestry, and other #landuse account for ~1/4 of recent annual GHG emissions.

  2. Factoring in the broader #food system brings the estimate to ~1/3 of emissions.

  3. #Deforestation & other land-use change account for >1/4 of CO2 emitted since 1750.

  4. Keeping warming below 1.5 degrees C is impossible without changing food production and consumption.

waiterich,

Also, 5) “meaningful climate change” has already occurred; we are already seeing a lot of effects at 1.1 degrees C of #climatechange. https://www.wri.org/insights/2023-ipcc-ar6-synthesis-report-climate-change-findings

This cartoon hits hard.

It hits even harder when you notice the 2007 publication date in the lower right corner.
