there are some killer shows from the 89 tours- this one at Hampton as well as the following night, Alpine Valley, Shoreline, Philly, I could go on and on listing tour dates lol. most people know of the Philly show I think because of the official release but that’s just scratching the surface of the heat they were bringing that year. I’m generally a late 60s-late 70s era fan but 89 was another peak for them for sure.
I haven’t seen any updates since the movie was announced and that was back in 2021. Now it looks like Jonah Hill is in hot water so I’m wondering if there’s any other info.
last I heard they were actively working on the script and I think a few other casting decisions had been made in addition to Jonah Hill. probably still a long way away from actually shooting the movie but apparently it’s typical of Scorsese to keep things in development this long while he works on other projects. I dont think the controversy over Jonah’s texts or whatever it is will effect the movie idk very much about that situation though
I am really enjoying this one, not sure I'd put it above GarciaLive 11 or 13, or the Kean College performance, but I think it'll end up among my favorites after a few more listens
I seem to be noticing a little bit of a trend lately that the out-of-box experience and overall quality of "mostly should just work" desktop-focused Linux distributions has declined. Usually, you could grab an .iso of distros like Ubuntu, Fedora, Manjaro etc, install it and have a decent enough platform out of the box to tweak...
I just did a full wipe of my system to try out Fedora KDE, XFCE & Budgie spins (I finally got fed up with Gnome not being what I wanted anymore after like 15 years of using it as my preferred DE) and didn't really have the same experience at all - even Fedora XFCE which you say was completely broken was working fine for me. I haven't run anything other than Fedora in a long time though so I can't really speak to the out of the box experience on other distros.
Wish I had taken some videos (or even just a photo or two) myself, but here's a great clip from Dead & Co in Philly the other night. Anyone else here go to the show or see them on this tour? They are sounding better than they have in a while imo

almost impossible for me to choose a favorite from Workingman's Dead, every song is so unique and special in its own way, if I had to pick I'd go with Dire Wolf.
I’ve seen them play Tender Situation live so many times but this one felt different. I love how pretty and uh, well, tender this song has become compared to the original Pure Guava version. Really hope they do another two nights in Philly this December like they have the past two years.
Which do you like better? Jerry is in great form and love, love the backing band on this show, even without Melvin. They really tied the show together.
man I have listened to 11/19/93 so many times lol, I remember sitting in my neighbors house trimming his homegrown weed with him years ago when he put that one on and I was just like holy shit man what show is this???

Best Mission in the Rain?
the 2/28/80 Kean College version is pretty much my favorite song of all time, but I was wondering if anyone has one they think tops it?
New Speedway Boogie | Sam Grisman Project at The Geneseo Riviera [April 1, 2023] (youtu.be)
Sam Grisman Project might just be my favorite Dead related band out right now, just discovered them last week!
Shit post: I just realized my "Some Dicks Picks" folder might be misconstrued....
Just saying.
Any news about the Jonah Hill/Scorcese Dead movie?

Is the out-of-the-box quality of desktop-focused Linux distros declining recently?

What's the longest you've stayed on a distribution?
This is kind of the anti-distro hopping thread. How long have you stayed on a single Linux distribution for your main PC? What about servers?...
Jerry Garcia & Reconstruction - Dear Prudence 7/8/79 (youtube.com)
Favorite Dead year/tour?
I'd have to go with the stereotypical spring of 77 but spring 90 is also a huge contender.
Workingman's Dead was released on June 14, 1970 - That's 53 years ago today! What's your favorite track off this album? (lemmy.world)
almost impossible for me to choose a favorite from Workingman's Dead, every song is so unique and special in its own way, if I had to pick I'd go with Dire Wolf.
