It's open source and has a documented protocol, and is designed around the idea of collaboratively designing 2D maps with other players. You can use custom graphics for map tiles, and custom player graphics (if you can make a 32x32 doodle of a character, you can play as them!)

I've been working on it since 2017 so the software has had a lot of time to mature, but I've had a hard time helping it find its audience. If anyone knows how to reach people interested in lighthearted SFW furry #roleplay I'd really like to know. I'm also hoping to specifically establish fantasy themes if possible!

It's unfortunate that by the time I was able to afford to buy consoles myself they stopped coming in fun colors and designs. At least emulator handhelds are still doing that (there's lots of fun FunKey S colors for example) but I'm not very into those.

I want the electronics I get to have cool translucent designs or at least be brightly colored instead of being black or white.

I still kind of want to make that Tilemap Town protocol gateway that translates the WebSocket and JSON based protocol it normally uses into something that would be more appropriate for something like a 6502 or a z80 to process.

I have a draft of a binary protocol designed that would probably be fine, though I'm not sure to what degree I should try and capture the forward/backward compatibility stuff the normal protocol has. Definitely something I'd have to put more planning into.

I'd been thinking of potentially getting a tablet since it seemed helpful to have a computer in my room that's just kind of on standby (instead of me having to go boot up my laptop), but that also isn't a phone. I thought maybe I could do some computer-y tasks with a microcontroller, but I realized I got a Raspberry Pi Zero W years ago that I never used, and I have an unused old 1024x768 monitor I could use with it and even already had by my bed, as well as an HDMI-->VGA adapter. So I was able to get pretty close to what I had in mind just using stuff I have already.

I'll have to write a program/script to do digital picture frame stuff and stats/weather/notes/whatever stuff.

I'm playing around with adding some sort of hanging platform (or maybe you'd call it a balcony?) on my Second Life house since I think that makes it look nicer.

It also makes it look like there's more space; I guess technically this hangs over land that's not mine but it's okayyy since it's just SL-owned.

Looks like there's a bit of a problem with putting this specific one on the top though. #secondlife

I've been wanting to name this plush bat character for ages, and I think I've got a name now: https://toyhou.se/22520669.vasteria

I'll probably tweak the design some more, but actually having a name means I can work with the character in a non-awkward way in stories and stuff.

"Asterism" is a group/pattern of stars in the sky, and "aster" is a kind of flower that's also purple like this bat. And the V comes from vector graphics, because of course I should have some sort of video game adjacency in there.
