Während aber Kolonialmächte wie das deutsche Kaiserreich oder Großbritannien Besiedlung oft als Besatzung oder Vorstufe zur Besatzung zum Zweck der Ausbeutung von Land und Menschen betrieben, kamen diese zionistischen Siedler ohne mächtiges "Mutterland" im Rücken. Im Gegenteil. Sie waren zwar oft nationalistisch gesinnt, aber eben auch auf der Suche nach Sicherheit vor Antisemitismus und staatlicher Repression anderswo. Sie knüpfen an eine jahrtausendealte jüdische Geschichte in der Region an. Mit der zu dieser Zeit dort lebenden arabischen Bevölkerung und den britischen Verwaltungsbehörden kam es zwar auch vor 1947 schon zu gewaltsamen Konflikten. Die Beherrschung, Ausbeutung oder Unterdrückung der arabischen Bevölkerung war aber nicht das Ziel. Für die Staatsgründung wiederum machte zwar eine Kolonialmacht - Großbritannien - nach heftigen Kämpfen den Weg frei. Beschlossen allerdings wurde sie von den Vereinten Nationen, die 1947 einen Teilungsplan beschlossen und die Gebietsteile sowohl einem möglichen israelischen als auch einem möglichen arabischen Staat zuwiesen. Auch die Zuschreibung "postkolonialer" Theoretiker, die israelische Gesellschaft sei "weiß" oder "europäisch", während die Palästinenser People of Color seien, führt in die Irre. Etwa die Hälfte der Juden, die heute in Israel leben, stammt aus Familien, die aus arabischen Ländern zugewandert sind.
Die Siedlungspolitik des modernen Israel im Westjordanland wiederum sieht dem imperialen europäischen Kolonialismus schon ähnlicher. Das Westjordanland ist Teil jener Gebiete, die die UN 1947 für einen Palästinenserstaat vorsahen. Seit dem Sechstagekrieg 1967 steht es unter israelischer Militärverwaltung. Ähnlich ist die israelische Siedlungspolitik dort dem historischen Kolonialismus insofern, als die Ansiedlung von Personen unter anderem dem Zweck dient, das Land zu beherrschen. Dennoch schafft es mehr Verwirrung als Klarheit, zwei so unterschiedliche Phänomene wie der Gründungsgeschichte Israels und der israelischen Besatzungspolitik im Westjordanland das Vokabular des Kolonialismus überzustülpen. Jene, die das tun, stehen deshalb selbst unter Ideologieverdacht, und oft zu Recht. Israel als Staat darzustellen, der aus kolonialem Unrecht entstanden sei und permanent koloniales Unrecht begehe, erlaubt es, Gewalt gegen Israel als "Freiheitskampf" zu rechtfertigen. Eine "Dekolonisierung" des gesamten Staatsgebiets Israels kann in letzter Konsequenz nur das Ende Israels und die Vertreibung seiner jüdischen Bevölkerung bedeuten. Anna Sauerbrey

Die letzten drei Tage habe ich mein Home-Office renoviert. Waende haben eine neue Farbe bekommen, und ich habe Akkustik-Paneele montiert. Ist noch nicht fertig, aber ich kann ab morgen wieder arbeiten.

Bisher bestes Mittel zum reinigen des USB Büchse des Smartphones: Eine alte Zahnbürste.

Edit: Stimmt leider doch nicht. Es hat auch herausgestellt, dass ich damit den festgestampften Staub ganz hinten in der Buchse nicht erreiche. Da hilft nur eine Nadel und Vorsicht. :(

Cool KDE Plasma trick: [Meta] + [v]

You know how you can use [Ctrl] + [v] to paste in place the last thing you copied to the clipboard, right?

A cool and productive-enhancing variant of that available in #KDE 's #Plasma desktop is that, when copying and pasting a lot of different things, you can hold down the [Meta] ("Windows") key and hit [v], and a list of all the elements available on the clipboard will pop up so you can choose what to paste next.

Adding in-app registrations to the @pixelfed app is challenging, and not for technical reasons

The decentralized nature means anyone can start an instance, but what happens when the admin decides they want to shut it down, or shut it down without notice?

I think the app should limit in-app sign-ups to trusted instances that won't disappear overnight

A potential compromise could be invite QR codes, or app links

Thoughts?

@dansup As someone who hosts software I would not even consider running an instance of a software, that excludes my instance from their apps. @pixelfed

@thisismissem Even if I would: Smaller instances can be perfectly safe and very well maintained but I doubt that someone wants to invest the work that is required in order to make sure that a list is complete but only includes perfectly great actors (whatever that's supposed to be). And obviously that is not even the point as the mentioned whitelisting for registrations seems to be only meant for specific instances instead of "safe & well maintained" ones. This is for marketing @dansup @pixelfed

@thisismissem For me, having just one main instance in the app that is run by the same people as the app is preferable to having a small (white-)list of instances that are deemed safe by intransparent informal structures. The advantage of having just the one instance would be, that as soon as one figures out that there is federation, they will know that there are other options.

Just don't lie! Don't pretend that you have curated a list of worthy instances.

@selea generally speaking: how well do docker environments work for edge use cases?

My reasoning for asking: I'm kind of used to being able to modify or control everything if I would like to perform some crazy out of the box usage for software and from what I understand I only have specific elements of config files available for me to adapt in a docker environment. I'm not kidding, I'm seriously asking. (no direct experience with docker yet)

Currently Host 2 is down due to an hardware problem that is already being worked on.

This will affect about one third of the servers hosted in Masto.host. Really sorry about that.
