Anarchist, physicist, transhumanist. Really into exploring the roots of things and expanding degrees of freedom. Incurable moralist. Floating metal sphere. “Radically uncool.”

CW: entire feed is political, I will mention the existence of things like cops and rapists without burying it beneath a CW, but will provide warnings for in-depth descriptions of violence, trauma, etc.

I was following some anthropology literature and abruptly ended up on Aaron's old blog, which is apparently still up. Big feels.

I think the thing that bothers me most about the post-Bernie wave of "socialism" isn't the tankies, it's that anarchists had largely seen 4th gen insurgent warfare and anthropology of stateless societies as theoretically central, and now all that's been outflooded by a wave of reds whose entire imaginary is basically just the USSR but with a coat of "direct democracy" paint.

So much of political discourse over the last fifteen years is just competing accounts for why various anarchist arguments have become increasingly popular. Everyone's got a think piece.

The sheer calm of being an anarchist and thus able to answer: "because we're right."

Soros conspiracies, psychoanalytical babble, something about the the professional managerial class, neoliberal brainwashing to undermine revolutionary solidarity... etc etc etc

The violent levels of cope for anarchists being right are simply amazing.

My evaluation of the first two episodes of #TheAcolyte is that it's good.

The acting has some standouts, the sets are tangible, the mystery is engaging, the fights are fun, the worldbuilding and consistency is solid, Leslye's megafandom is apparent in a thousand ways and she works hard to make the rest of Star Wars (esp the prequels) stronger. But the dialogue is mid and the editing a hot mess. Also that ending scene to the first episode was clearly studio forced.

rechelon,
@rechelon@mastodon.social avatar

I really really really like Leslye as a person and a fan, everything I've heard from her for the past four years has convinced me she understands Star Wars and exactly what that means to those of us who grew up on EU content in the 80s and 90s. But she needs to replace her editor and slow down and take an extra five seconds between screen wipes. She also needed to tell the studio to fuck off and not mandate the shoed-in audience spoon-feeding scene at the end of the first episode. Bleh.

The Acolyte better be fucking good, besides Andor, it's the only Star Wars project I've waited like this for in 25 years.

A big chunk of my book on the Science Wars is tracing the history of the liberal concept of "totalitarianism" and how it's consistently applied by nihilists/marxists/liberals to denounce anarchists for having values.

I just laugh, at this point, when someone says "totalitarianism."

rechelon,
@rechelon@mastodon.social avatar

Like, okay, I'm a "totalitarian" because my commitment to freedom is universal and thus "total." Okay. Fucking who cares?

When you peel back the postmodern commitment to "pluralism" and it's just boring spineless centrist liberalism underneath, same as always.

rechelon,
@rechelon@mastodon.social avatar

Of course Anna here is less echoing Arendt's lib bullshit than she is the commie Lefort, who explicitly called "the abolition of power" "totalitarian."

Because like state communist horrors? Perfectly fine. It's the anarchists canceling Stalin that're THE REAL TOTALITARIANISM

Okay fediverse, help me with something. Obviously the most ubiquitous and iconic anarchist poster in history is the Crimethinc "for every girl..." gender one that's on every punk house in the world.

But what's the second most ubiquitous and classic anarchist poster?

rechelon,
@rechelon@mastodon.social avatar

Variants of the capitalist pyramid? Meh, not really. The crimethinc dishes poster? Maybe, I guess, but it's not as common. Some Beehive Collective poster? Possibly.

What are we missing?

@riotmuffin

Yeah, I think Bonzo combined is probably holding the second spot rn, tho they would squirm if we told them that.

rechelon,

@riotmuffin

Yeah, Cristy Road in combination is probably a close second to Bonzo in combination.

To not be aggressively building tens of millions of additional housing units in every city in the global north and opening all borders is to be directly and actively planning the biggest genocide in human history.

Anyone pro national borders is a straight up genocidaire.

Just remembered there's an old boomer anarcho-primitivist who's somehow a fan of me but couldn't grasp an argument for transhumanism besides "sex robots" and when I said that wasn't something I was into he was like "but why not??!! who wouldn't want sex robots???!!"

I have this passage copied into a textpad without a source! and my google-fu is failing. 😢 If I can't find it it can't go in.

"To the extent that the mind furnishes the categories of understanding, there are no real world objects of study other than those inherent within the mental makeup of persons"
(Gergen 1986: 141). The physical world is the dream. When one " 'awakens' from the 'dream' of the physical world," one realizes that the dreamer is the cause of the events and the relationships."
