@ramikrispin in his channel https://t.me/ramikrispinds posted about a book on Physics Based Simulation. I decided that hey maybe I can port the python code to R, so I'm going to give it a try!

https://DSLC.io welcomes you to week 21 of #TidyTuesday! We're exploring Carbon Majors emissions data!

TidyTuesday is a weekly social data project. All are welcome to participate! Please remember to share the code used to generate your results! TidyTuesday is organized by the Data Science Learning Community. Join our Slack for free online help with R and other data-related topics, or to participate in a data-related book club! How to Participate Data is posted to social media every Monday morning. Follow the instructions in the new post for how to download the data. Explore the data, watching out for interesting relationships. We would like to emphasize that you should not draw conclusions about causation in the data. Create a visualization, a model, a shiny app, or some other piece of data-science-related output, using R or another programming language. Share your output and the code used to generate it on social media with the #TidyTuesday hashtag.
Line chart of Carbon Majors & Global Fossil Fuel and Cement Emissions, 1854 - 2022. This graph shows the carbon dioxide emissions traced to the carbon fuels and cement produced by the Carbon Majors entities and compares them to total global fossil fuel and cement emissions, for coal, oil, natural gas and cement. Trends increase over time, with dramatic increase in the 1950s. There are some minor dips in the mid 1980s and mid 1990s, and 2020. Current levels above 40k.

The latest release of the tidyAML R package improves access to model predictions.

The internal_make_wflw_predictions() function now returns a single tibble containing the original data, training predictions, and testing predictions. This makes it easy to evaluate model performance without extra wrangling to extract the predictions.

Hello friends!

The {ggsurvfit} package made its v1.0 release! 🕺🏻🕺🏻

Check it out for your survival/time-to-event visualization needs! The plots are fully ggplot and integrate seamlessly with all the ggplot functions you you already know 📈

New on the blog!

Well, it happened. I've been doing at least some of my R in VS Code. There's actually a lot to like, but a lot of context to get to grips with too.

If you've been considering trying it out as an alternative to RStudio and you use a mac, I recommend taking a skim read of my blog post.

Who am I kidding..? You're on Mastodon. Enjoy your emacs and Linux distro 😅

My #adventofcode #rstats solution for day 5.

🤌 I use the vectorized ifelse aka dplyr::case_when() but it's not for everyone's taste
🤌 Part 2 set my computer on 🔥, so one would need to find an alternative to brute force...

👋 #rlang users, I'm a single maintainer of the extraDistr package. It has 1.4M downloads and ~40 other packages depend on it. My last attempt to send an update to CRAN failed because my package failed some cryptic checks they introduced. Now I was warned that, even though I didn't change anything, it failed some new CRAN tests as well and if not fixed, the package will be removed from CRAN. I'm looking for someone who would like to fix it, I'm tired of maintaining it. https://github.com/twolodzko/extraDistr

As a bonus, yesterday we took a peek at how you can combine Quarto + Observable to create a serverless dashboard.

Note, this uses Quarto's 1.4 pre-release. Still pretty cool to imagine what's "plotsible" with this combo!

This weekend I finally got around to deploying a Shiny app wih webR! I've finally put together (almost) all of my plots into one place and it made it easier to browse based on the packages used! 📦

You can view the webR-powered app here: https://nrennie.github.io/tidytuesday-shiny-app/

(may take a while to load - not advised to try on mobile!)

Code on GitHub: https://github.com/nrennie/tidytuesday-shiny-app

This fantastic tutorial from @ramikrispin made it relatively straightforward to get up and running quickly: https://github.com/RamiKrispin/shinylive-r

The app itself is very simple, and works because my #TidyTuesday GitHub repo uses the same directory structure for each week. This was made easier by using template files, and you can read about that in the blog post I wrote last month: https://nrennie.rbind.io/blog/script-templates-r/
