The best part of WWDC is finding and meeting talented new developers with great ideas and enthusiasm to match.

And catching up with developers I’ve discovered in the past who are now seeing all kinds of success in their field 🤩

Walking thru my 'hood, I see a new #coffeeShop emerging. Still step ladders and paint buckets but should be close.

A long-standing #Bridgehead coffee shop closed across the street as that little local chain got bought out by a big corp. They seem to be shrinking as per big corporate modus operandi.

Hope this new one is decent. Wish it were indie, but that name sounds franchisey.

@ottaross

Where is this? I want to try.

Bridgehead - I think the acquisition by Pilot coffee is a good thing. They’re a small chain in Toronto and they care about good coffee

I’m theory a better owner than Second cup

@ottaross

Thanks does that mean Bridgehead Golden is gone?

mlevison,
@mlevison@agilealliance.social avatar

@ottaross darn

Much better atmosphere than McRae which has no light.

Long bike ride on Sunday. Will want coffee. Apparently my options aren’t what I expected.

Thanks

#Influence #Reactance - When we limit freedom, we often face resistance, especially in persuasion. The key to success is providing genuine choices.

Where have you had success by offering choice?

Feeling pushed triggers our 'anti-persuasion radar,' even if the push aligns with our goals. Many want to speak up more in team meetings. However, when it's a corporate drive, we question if it's our choice or a push, leading to silence.

Has anyone seen Agile transitions fail because of this?

The TidePod challenge grew from a warning that felt like a restriction. When people perceive a threat to their autonomy, they tend to rebel. To have real influence, start with understanding their needs

Make data centres, AI, and bitcoin, build their own NEW renewables or lose their license to do business.

Not "contract with a already built source" build it new, or dont do business.

This ignores the fact that this was an older reactor design in a location that should never have had a reactor in the e place

mlevison,
@mlevison@agilealliance.social avatar

@kevinrns @LaChasseuse

You’re saying all reactors are bad, based on specific example.

I suspect that getting out of our climate mess will take many more options. Not fewer.

mlevison,
@mlevison@agilealliance.social avatar

@kevinrns @LaChasseuse

A thought experiment? A car from the same time period as the reactor was built, is involved in more accidents. Are all cars automatically bad?

I think we would agree that the only standard that matters is the current on.

mlevison,
@mlevison@agilealliance.social avatar

@kevinrns @LaChasseuse

My point is that you write off nuclear reactors based on a single case.

The path to zero emissions requires many tools. Reducing the number available makes the job much harder.

Consider using various browsers for different purposes, EFF’s Daly Barnett told the @WSJ. “Choosing a different browser based on the level of privacy one needs for a specific activity will do wonders for the overall risk their digital footprint carries.” https://www.wsj.com/tech/cybersecurity/internet-browsing-privacy-99ee0be8

I’ve also heard of Mulhovad a browser where all users share a common web fingerprint

Also apparently their vanilla storage - i.e. rent space just like Amazon S2 is cheaper than most (all) others.

I want the #Dunning-Kruger effect to be real. I've used it the past when discussing problems of [[Cognitive Bias]] in the context of why we're bad at Estimating.

The Effect claims that people with a small amount of knowledge in an area will not be aware of their incompetence. We all know cases where we've observed this and so hearing about Dunning-Kruger effect made me very happy when I learned about it.
